Lexus LC in depth

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...h-model-review

Besides typical Lexus reliability, would anyone here consider this over the competition? It's reminiscent of the RC F when it debuted...heavy, (relatively) slow, questionable styling with a nice N/A V8 under the hood, emphasizing luxury over pure performance.

Totally two different cars .. I would definitely pay 92k for a Lexus over a M3 competition . Pathetic how I paid close to $90k and can’t even have backup camera .

Have you seen one in person? Your 'questionable styling' quip will go right out the window when you do. The LC has an in-person presence that pretty much has no equal at its price point.

Food for thought: I visited PEC (Porsche Experience Center) Atlanta in September. Three -- yes, three -- LCs were parked in employee parking. Each one outshone whatever was parked next to (911s, new Panamera, etc.). These were Porsche employees choosing one over a P-car. That says something.

Great looking car that nearly makes up for the abortion that was the SC430. Nearly.

+1 to this.

I've seen a handful roll by me on the road. Definitely a head turner.

Although it's, "slow" it's also NA 5.0 V8, which you don't see very often in this segment anymore.

It is a beautiful car but at this point in my life, I want a car that looks good but also has more performance. I know one person with one but he's in his 60s so in a different stage of his life and wants.

Isn't that true of every Lexus or Toyota ever? Slight exception for MkIV Supra and honorable mention to the unobtainable LFA.

Sort of like complaining that a Defender 110 isn't quite fast enough.

Questionable styling? The RC-F is a sexy car. Not enough power for the cost for me, though.

Agreed. I was at a Lexus dealer and they were excited to have one in the showroom because it is such an impressive machine when you see it in person. It sounds incredible, too.

Style. The Lexus isn't based on a $38k car and doesn't look anything like the mundane C63.

Same reason people buy Aston Martins when massively faster P Cars or Italians are available. Or even a Miata instead of Mustangs or Camaros. Not everything is about magazine stats.

I have seen one in person and hate the styling. I would not consider one (or an RC-F for that matter).

Lexus is nothing but a Toyota. Not paying that price. Or downgrading myself to Lexus/Toyota from BMW

You guys really think 5% of people with cars like these ever drive them hard? I'd bet nearly none of these, the new 8er or even most Corvettes ever see 112 mph, much less in a 1/4 mile.

My wife always makes fun of me because I'll get behind sports cars in traffic and then have to go around them. She follows the Corollas and RX400h's because they're actually driven at 6/10's or more. Most people out there are scared of the right pedal and just buy for status.

That's somewhat like saying Audi is nothing but a VW. Or Porsche is nothing but a ... VW. Or Lambo is nothing but a ... WAIT FOR IT! -- a VW.

Oversimplifying this way is just ignorant. Or comment bait. Which I guess worked, eh?

Your wife sounds like a capable, aggressive driver. Personally, it'd drive me nuts . Fact is, this Lexus is a 911 competitor costing $100k out the door. It's a GT sports coupe which, per Lexus' history, underperforms against its competition. It better have Bentley luxury appointments for that price point.

Are you saying Bentley's are nice? I mean, it's a VW...

Again, most of the folks shopping six figure cars are giving at least some portion of their decision over to style and comfort. If they weren't, the roads in nice neighborhoods would just be paved in GT2 RS's and GTR's. The Lexus isn't really a 911 competitor as much as it is an 8er, S Class Coupe and Bentley Conti competitor. It's certainly sleeker and more unique than those three, at least to my eyes. It's really got very few sporting pretensions, so things being faster than it aren't really that important to many buyers.

Your first statement doesn't hold water. VW group is the umbrella company that owns Porsche right? I completely understand and agree with your second paragraph though.
