Any new M5 owners apply a paint protection film to their vehicle, Xpel, 3M, or Suntek? I'm looking to have it installed but I keep hearing that there isn't a kit available yet to do the full front end (bumper, hood, and fenders). I even had my guy check the Euro system to see if there was a kit available for the European spec M5 and still nothing. Last resort is for them to cut it to measure. I wanted to see if you guys have encountered something similar before I went down that path.

If you can get full hood wrapped then it's always custom. Don't get partial...get full.
Bumper is mostly precut.....so that can be tricky.

Absolutely! I'm certainly looking to wrap the entire front end of the car but the paint protection film dealers around the twin cities are telling me the manufacturers (Xpel, 3M, and Suntek) don't have a kit yet available for the F90 M5; without a kit the installer will have to cut the film by hand to the dimensions of the bumper, hood, etc. Having to go this route makes me a bit nervous.

My suggestion...:get the hood wrapped. Again, it's all custom cut and u can get it done now.
On bumper put some temp wrap...$20 strip from pep boys....add 2-3 keep it (although ugly) till the proper film is available. This way you can keep the bumper clean

I put xpel / complete hoods.

People who installed it tells me that this hood is big.

Next week, got the front bumper and some space under the trunk.

They installed the hood without precut. Don't know for the bumper.

On a similar note are any of you planning to get a ceramic coating for the entire vehicle, rims etc?

Any experiences with this and maintenance do's and don't's ?

i put ceramic coats on myself this weekend, don't pay someone to do it. i used cquartz uk then topped it with cquartz gliss - and it looks great. i didn't want to spend the big bucks for ppf.

I totally agree, absolutely do not pay someone to do this as it can be super expensive. Nowadays the consumer grade product line for most ceramics are more the sufficient with proper application. I would recommend you do your research before deciding on a brand. I've used cquartz in the past and it held up well. For my M5 I applied Gyeon Mohs and followed that up with the Gyeon Booster. The water beading seems to be better with this product but time will tell in how it holds up. Do a proper paint correction (wash, iron remover, clay, polish) before applying any ceramic coating.

Just got mine done. XPEL and Ceramic Pro. (And yes there is a F90 M5 kit available now for XPEL). It was released last Tuesday.

3500. XPEL on Full hood, front bumper, fenders, headlights, inside door handles, trunk bumper, and bottom skirts and A-Pillar until the hood line and B-Pillars as well. Ceramic Pro on entire car and wheels (dismounted, coated and remounted).

A few questions. Does anyone know if it makes sense to put a ceramic coating on the whole car if only part of it (front end, rocker panels) are covered in PPF?

Also, any idea about ceramic coating for matte paint?

What exactly DIDN'T get covered? The roof comes to mind, but sounds like you did everything else.

So I know many people do get these protection on their cars but does anyone not get it?

I'm a type to take my car to a regular car wash and don't mind nicks and dings as time passes. I'm wondering if I'm the only one like that with the M5.

I would highly encourage. The ceramic coating will also protect the PPF. My primary reason for applying is the ceramic coating is to make life easier when washing the car. I use a blower and the water just sheds right off. It also aides in avoiding swirl marks.

At last check a couple of weeks ago they didn't, neither did 3M or Xpel. My install guy ended up having to manually cut the hood, fenders, and front bumper. It takes a really good installer to be able to do this with PPF as it can be a bit more challenging than installing a vinyl wrap.

i PPF'd my m4 but ultimately decided it was a waste of cash. side note: i parked next to a 7 series today at work and it had full PPF. it looked horrible, it had yellowed in spots and you could see every line. i know newer films aren't supposed to do that but nonetheless it looked awful.

Next week I am getting custom fit XPEL Ultimate on the full front, mirrors, rockers, door cups, door edges, and rear bumper. Opti-Coat Pro+ two stage coating on entire car and wheels. Interior will be treated with Ceramic Pro Leather. 3M Crystaline tint 50 on all windows, windshield 70, and the chrome bits wrapped in flat black. AutoSkinz in Valencia, Ca. $6200. I'll post pics in a few weeks when I have the car back.
