Any info on the next gen RS4?

HKS, have you heard anything? Will it be F/I'd or just more power out of the same engine?

I'm thinking about this as my graduation present. Not sure if it makes sense spending $80k on a car.

pretty sure that audi only makes one RS car at a time and that after this year ('08) of the rs4, audi is going to start with the RS6. there will also be a TT-RS i think.

Are you suggesting that Audi will cease production of the RS4 at the end of 2008 and have no car to compete with the M3,C63, IS-F for the next 4-5 years? (not too informed on the typical Audi line shelf-life, I know its shorter than BMW's 7 years though.)

If you are correct in that, they would be missing out on a quite lucrative potential market. Especially if they had a TTV8 entry in the form of a RS5/RS4.

I read that somewhere as well. Audi likes to release one RS at a time, so that would probably mean that the RS4/5 won't be released until 2010/11 I would think.

Yeah but Audi are planning to change the "one RS at a time" way. I can guarantee we wont see any RS4 before 2010. The exact dates arent known to me, but we will see the TT-R, RS5 and R8 V10 before the next RS4.

Damn, when you say it like that...imagine how great the TT-R, RS5 and R8 V10 will be. I think sometimes Audi can be a little predictable but those 3 models are very unique and I cant wait for performance figures. I'll keep you guys up to date

They better have the RS5 ready before the CTS-V coupe is ready. Or the new CLK63 AMG.

RS6 is already in production and they selling them in Europe.
I think what they mean by one RS car is they wouldnt introduce 2 RS cars at the same time...

A lot of people would be interested in the answer on this question.

They need to bring the damn RS6 to the US. The actual version of the car too, not that sedan crap. Bring on the American RS6 Advant.

I typically let things like this go, but for some reason I feel the need to point out.. it's Avant, not Advant. Sorry for being anal retentive about it.

yeah, it is not a secret that the RS4 production ends this year. i think that you will see the competitor for the M3 and C63 shift from the RS4 to the RS5 once it is released.

Decided to check what some other sites (mainly Audi sites) to see what they were thinking about the possible RS5 engine choices and three seem to be well out in front, the 5.0L v10 from the RS6 but without the turbos, the current unit but with more power and a yet to be released Bi-turbo or supercharged 4.0L v8.

Any of these would make the RS5 quicker than the M3, but to different degrees, the normal N/A will be a little quicker but retain to same character of the current RS4, the V10 may increase it's rev range over the RS6 but in character it will feel different and closer to the M5. This is the engine I doubt most because that would place the car in a different class bracket and price, which leaves the 4.0L v8 with forced induction, it's the one which appeals to me the most, it should still be light (in supercharged form at least) and should match the bigger V10 in power and torque.

It's the one I would be looking for if I was in the running for an RS5.

I cant agree with you more Footie, it was well put. Those are def the 3 options, Audi is also known to test more than 1 engine when during testing of future models, so who knows how many engines they have tested. I would also be looking for a V8TT based on the V10TT in the RS6.

Footie^^^Well that is still a rumor... I think they gonna wait for a little bit and see how their s4 SC will perform so they can have more ideas on an rs4.
Just to think:
How much money did they spend on developing v10TT (rs6), I guess a lot. So they might put that engine somewhere else.
On the other hand: C5 rs6 was v8TT, and no other Audi were using this motor.

All of this is just rumors but then everyone knows that, also has it been confirmed that the S4 is running a SC v6? If so then I reckon it will be a cracker because for Audi to move from it's normal position of turbo power to supercharger means it's going to be even better.

As for the development costs of the v10TT, it will probably be used else where, maybe the RS7 or RS8 if both come and I personally hope that some day they throw that engine in the R8 because that package can cope with a hack of a lot more than it's currently getting.

It hasnt been officially confirmed yet about s4, cause they have to introduce their car on one of the Worlds Car Show, which is prolly gonna be in Frankfurt. But even officials confirm that in an "unofficial" way ))
And yeah, R8 should be more powerfull. Next r8 is v10 and v12 diesel.
