I think the Genesis G70 Sport will be a very serious contender to the BMW M340i
I honest did not known this car exist before I accidentally clicked into some videos. Then I was kind of shocked by how korean managed to give this time.
Those brembo brakes, the 3.3L twin turbo engine outputting 370ps, and the overall style and details of exterior and interior (I have to point out how similar it is to BMW's. Im not saying they were copycat as there are differences. But certainly the designer was "inspired"), and korean cars are really ahead of game in the reliability department according to recent statistics. Plus rear wheel drive option and Limited slip differential, and the weight of the car, even though is not light, but not heavier than current gen 3 series, unlike lexus (And I suspect the g20 wont be lighter.) Everything of this car, as a luxury sport sedan, seems like a complete package. But I have to admit the price of this car is a bit high for its badge at 57k in Canada. Im not saying there is anything inherently wrong about being a hyundai, but I dont think the market is ready for it yet, |

Interior is nice, very Audi-esque.
Not a fan of the exterior though. And I bet the driving experience won't be anywhere of that of a BMW. I drove a few cars before deciding on a BMW, and the biggest reason was how much better the BMW interacted with the driver. The E Class Merc was the worst. |

I don't think it's hard to be a contender these days; just put on some fancy leather bits and have a go. The car industry is pretty uninspired for the most part...

While everyone has accelerated progress; BMW has slowed down progress... this is normal when everyone needs to catch up to you. Progress has limitations and I think in the near future; most car makes will be on a very similar baseline.

Looks nice & the interior looks very nice, but what's the build quality? If it's the same junk my 2010 Genesis Coupe (Bought new) was, then they still make complete shit. I test drove a new Elantra last year before I decided on the Jetta and that was a huge POS too. So my bet goes on the Genesis brand is still junk too.

I've been VERY interested in this car since it was announced. Maybe I would have gotten it instead of my 2 series? Probably not. But it is still "Coming Soon" on their website and living in Wisconsin they probably won't be around here for a while. Once the my lease end was close I stopped caring too much. They made their announcements way too far ahead of the actual release of this car it feels like as any news or information on this car has had few and far between updates.
Plus the same as the Alfa Romeo Giulia the dealership experience may be a problem for this car as it is for Genesis in general (Where Alfa is combined with either Fiat or Maserati but nothing is dedicated). Now that Hyundai is going to start selling Genesis vehicles from Hyundai dealerships as I understand it you can now get serviced at an economy car dealer. Not that it is necessarily bad but the standards are generally lower.

and yeah, an entry level hyundai (elantra) isnt going to have all the bells and whistles lol. I test drove the g80 sport and it is a very serious competitor to the BMW/Audi/Mercedes i test drove as well.

Sorry but I will never be buying anything Korean when it comes to a car. For those who think that might sound racist I have never owned an American car either. I hate to even rent an American car. I am sure the quality is top notch and dependability may well be above BMW. Nevertheless I'll stick with the Ultimate Driving Machine. My last three cars have been BMW and I don't see that changing. My next new car will be the new 8 series. But that won't be for a few years since I just bought the 540 last month.

This is a super crowded segment but the G70 looks very competitive. The ATS and Jag XE had a lot of shortcomings that you could tell from photos alone, it is no wonder they both flopped.
Genesis has had 6 straight months of declining sales so they need this car badly. It will be tough for them to compete though not due to the product, but because they still sell through Hyundai dealers and will have terrible residuals (as has been the trend for Genesis). That makes leasing at competitive rates also tough. |

i feel like BMW has been taking 2 steps back, 1 step forward for the last 5 years or so on all their lines outside of M. They have gone from fun driving performance machines, to old lady cruisers.

They really need to get this next 3-series right, especially since they've clearly abandoned making the 5-series a drivers' car since 2009. |

It will likely be mildly better, just as the new 5er is slightly better than the previous one. The F series will hopefully go down as the worst BMW's since the ETA cars.
But many other cars will continue to be better drivers cars. BMW has conceded this title to be the German Toyota, all things at once, nothing great. |
