Paul Walker's Seven M3s Headed to Auction, Including Five Lightweight E36 M3

Paul Walker’s role as Brian O’Conner in The Fast and the Furious movie series made him car celebrity royalty, but he was a gearhead off-camera as well. And now, 21 vehicles from the late actor’s estate will go up for sale at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottdale Auction this coming January 11 – 19, giving us some insight into the kind of metal Walker found interesting. Many of the cars are compelling – and valuable – in their own right, independent of the celebrity connection.

The headline items in Walker’s collection are the five E36-generation BMW M3 Lightweight cars. Five. Only 115 production copies were made of this variant, which was 282 pounds lighter than the standard U.S.-market M3 according to Car and Driver. All were painted Alpine White with checkered-flag graphics in the M division’s red/blue/purple color theme. One of the cars listed on B-J’s docket is without the livery and rear wing. There’s also a pair of E30 M3s (a 1988 and a 1991) that will go up for bids.

A secondary theme in Walker’s collection is ’60s Chevy muscle, with a 1963 Nova station wagon, 1964 Chevelle station wagon, and a 1967 Chevy II Nova. Also notable is a 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302S. Built on a special production line in Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly, the 302S was a turn-key race car based on the Boss 302 with a GT500 transmission, clutch, and muffler. Ford only build 50 per year for three model years, making this another rare pick.

Despite the import-heavy vibe of many of the Fast and Furious movies, there are only three Japanese cars in this list. Note that 1989 Nissan Skyline GT-R race car is an R32 version, not the R34 from the movies. The 2009 Nissan 370Z, however, was seen on screen in Fast Five. The third Japanese model going up for auction is a 2006 Toyota Tundra, one of three pickups in the list.

Here’s the full list of cars from the Paul Walker collection:

1963 Chevrolet Nova station wagon
1964 Chevrolet Chevelle station wagon
1967 Chevrolet II Nova
1988 BMW M3 E30
1989 Nissan R32 Skyline race car
1991 BMW M3 E30 coupe
1995 BMW M3 E36 Lightweight
1995 BMW M3 E36 Lightweight
1995 BMW M3 E36 Lightweight
1995 BMW M3 E36 Lightweight
1995 BMW M3 E36 Lightweight – Factory LTW wing and race-livery delete
1995 Ford Bronco
2000 Audi S4
2003 Ford F250 pickup
2004 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup
2005 Harley-Davidson RS motorcycle
2006 Toyota Tundra pickup
2008 Suzuki motorcycle
2009 Nissan 370Z
2011 BMW motorcycle

I believe a couple of these were sold a few years ago, unless he had more in his collection than what's being listed. One of the LTWs had less than 100mi on it, we did the PPI and it was immaculate. Even still had the protective blue sheets on the plastics.

Also, he had an M1 in the collection, which we've posted before:

I wonder what this sale is motivate by. I assume his estate is not in need of funds and these vehicles will likely appreciate in value as time goes on.

Half of that stuff on that list isn’t going to appreciate. 5 lightweights. Kinda bizarre. US engine was nothing special but it did sound good, like a proper Bmw.

US motor, no radio or air conditioning, cloth seats and parts in the trunk that voided your new car warranty.

I was in the market in 1995 and the Lightweights were sitting on dealer lots *heavily* discounted. Ironic that they go for so much now.

Wasn't the LTW a US only specification? So no euro motored LTW existed?

Because BMW wanted ensure that E36 M3 LTW CSL was a proper homologation to their factory race cars, they decided to go as far as hand-picking the engines that went into these cars. These engines were said to have gone through some seriously rigorous testing before being fitted to the cars, to ensure they were the best possible variants of the US-spec S50 available.

I wonder how much it sold for. I remember maybe 20 years ago someone was selling one for a lousy $60k.
