Anyone check out the new Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) technology in the new Porsche engines? Sounds like a great Idea...wonder why BMW never thought of it.

BMW has been using DFI in the 335 and 535 (and others).
These pictures show the DFI steel fuel lines feeding the six direct injectors on the 335 engine. ![]() BMW was not the first to use gasoline DFI in a production engine. |

Is the 272 HP version of the I6 used in the Euro 330i a direct injection application?

Direct Fuel Injection requires much higher fuel pressures than previously used - 1500psi, iirc. The early N54s had a lot of fuel pump failures, as generating such pressures was more than some fuel pumps could handle. Seals were failing, pumps were overheating, etc. You don't leave the Z4 forums much, do you? ![]() |

All of the current fuel pumps have issues. The 2009 will have the new ones according to the recent posts. Somehow my original is still going, good thing. I would be pissed if they replaced it with one just to get replaced again.
