Rear ended :(

Thankfully no structural damage and the other guy's insurance company has been very pleasant and cooperative. The real shock came when I got an estimate...almost $7,400!

Are they ordering a new trunk lid? You can fix that with PDR for way less. It will look brand new like nothing happened. Just ask the guy if he is willing to avoid going through insurance so there is a clean title on the car.

Yes, plus a new bumper, camera, and two sensors. Hard to see but the trunk lid is creased sharply with flaking paint right above the camera so it's beyond PDR.

Yes, the car recognized the impact and displayed a message on the center screen asking if I wanted to contact BMW for assistance

They can do miracles with PDR. The paint flaking might be fixable, was the camera damaged? If the sensors and camera are still working, it might be salvageable rather than replacing the whole trunk lid.

Not sure why you wouldn’t be pushing for new parts rather than repair when it’s not an at fault accident and the other insurance of the other party is paying?

Sorry to hijack the thread, I need some empathy as well. Got hit on a T intersection on Monday by a student driver.

Front door, front door handle, sideskirt, rear passenger door, rear flank panel and rear bumper were all hit. Door won't close properly forcing the camera off and interior light on. When closed with a lot of force, it will open only from inside. Car won't lock anymore. Door handle is broken because a friendly and very big truck driver tried to free me from my vehicle after the accident and almost ripped the doorhandle off while doing so.

The other car had a scratched front bumper. No one got hurt, it was a low speed collision, which doesn't really match with the damage to my car.

Sometimes the insurance goes with fake parts and also the car won't have a clean title.

??? The title will not be affected at all. The only time a title is “branded” is when the car is declared a total loss and then repaired. Maybe you’re thinking of CarFax. There’s no requirement that the repair facility report the wreck to CarFax.

I don't think aftermarket parts are available yet. Everything quoted is OEM which explains the high repair cost. The parts alone are $4700.

By clean title, do you mean the CarFax record?

Yeah I assume any insurance claim would be reported to car fax. Also if you file a police report.

Not a 3 series, but my friend in his new 1 series got T boned by a lady SUV driver who came through the lights at red. He said it was an interesting experience suddenly finding yourself surrounded by bags and fog and an ephemeral voice asking if he was OK and did he need emergency assistance . Fortunately it was only two cars that got written off.

If it's a lease obviously just go through insurance and a proper body shop. Even if it's a purchase, there's a good chance CarFax will never find out about it.

No matter what, I'd get it properly repaired. I doubt PDR could get that fixed correctly.

Yes bmw barely has OEM parts available for many things.
