It is an incredibly capable and very interesting car, however after driving one, I couldn't help but think that I would never pay $150k+ for any Porsche that isn't a 911 or a GT car.

It is the only electric car that I have any interest in, but I wouldn't pony up that kind of cash for it. To slow to charge, and too expensive. Great car to be sure....and I want his job.

I don't know. My take away is there is hope that future electric cars can still be exciting beyond stoplight racing, even if it's still a ways off in an affordable package and proper infrastructure. And I agree, I hate the Turbo name here. But Turbo = marketing in this case. Like M does.

I am coming around wrt electric cars. I am a fan of the Taycan and have been in one. For me, the best looking sedan out there. We all know it’s fast in a straight line (10.5@130), but the fact that Autobild recently ran it on track and it crushed every other “super” sedan in that setting. Pretty awesome, considering it’s a 5500 lb car to beat up on the GT63S, M5C, RS7, etc. The handling is the part of electric I was most interested to see and Porsche nailed it.

Yep, the problem is its a GT car, with the interior space and practicality of a 3-series, despite being the size of a 5-series and a price of an S65 AMG. The practicality is worse than a Model 3, which is 1/3 the price. The Sport Turismo variant will hopefully solve some of those issues, but will likely be more expensive and won't increase range.

It is a good car, but is woefully overpriced, and in my opinion it just lacks the engagement of a transmission or exhaust that I love, and the steering is pretty weak by Porsche standards. Even the 4S is overpriced because more options aren't standard that many will want. I would just get a Model 3 LR or Performance and get a Boxster for the weekend, and I would likely not exceed the price of a nicely optioned Taycan. |

Impressive feat of engineering for sure. Personally I'm still biased against EVs and the Taycan reaffirms why:
- 5100 lbs - Inability to row through your own gears (I enjoy an auto with manual shift mode) - No noise; I'm not a loud exhaust guy but when I am driving in a spirited fashion I like an exhaust note - Cost and inconveniences of EV ownership I'm already not happy about the Macan going EV, but I'd be really upset if this happens to the Boxster/Cayman. The fundamentals of a roadster include: light weight, manual option, good exhaust note. An EV model would be blasphemy. For DD use EVs objectively can't be beaten. Going to the pump and dropping $45 a pop hurts my soul. But I'll still put up with it for the reasons stated above.

I couldn't answer that as my car has 3 pedals and in general I prefer slightly older vehicles from mid 00s to early 2010s

Speed and acceleration are very good, but this shouldn't be surprising as a Model 3 and S are also very impressive in those respects. And for me, speed can get old fast, having a fast 0-60 time is nice, but it isn't a priority of mine. Handling is good too, despite its weight, but you do notice those 5000+ pounds when hitting a backroad or going around a corner. The electric sounds which Porsche charges you for and says "adds soul" is very annoying, and most of the time doesn't properly mimic your inputs. Brakes are ok in feel, but could use more bite in my opinion, and steering is very disappointing by Porsche standards. The gear change to second can be quite abrupt and noticeable, and because you can't change gears yourself, engagement is a bit lacking, you mainly need to pay attention throttle and steering inputs. When it comes to other aspects outside of driving, things such as practicality are lacking, as the rear seat is tight on headroom and legroom, its very much like my CLS being difficult to get in and out of, and cargo space is smaller than that of a compact Model 3 in both the rear and front, despite the car being mid-sized, and some of the technology feels clumsy or half-baked, such as the electric door handles, and especially the center stack and lower display which is far behind BMW, Audi and Tesla, the gauge cluster is very nice though. Some materials could be nicer around the door panel and center console, and if you don't opt for full leather the interior materials are incredibly cheap, and the price is just absurd in my opinion. Even the base 4S model which is stated to start at $103k actually starts at $114k, because Porsche is forcing certain options to 4S buyers, and when spec'd out to proper luxury car levels of equipment, the car is easily pushing $140k. I test drove a $163k Taycan Turbo (not even the top model) and the sales advisor told me "this one is a pretty basic spec other than PDCC and RAS (rear-axle steering)." Charging infrastructure isn't even at the level of Tesla's Supercharger network, the Electrify America network has poor reliability and reviewers from E-Tron owners, and can be very expensive in some locations, I believe Matt Farah paid $52 for a "fill up." It seems range isn't too much of an issue when road tripping and using the "range mode" or cruise, but when pushing the car, or driving it how Porsche intends you to, it loses range fast. The car definitely has its strengths but also some considerable weaknesses. To me, it feels more like an electric Panamera but cramped on the inside, it is a good car, but there is nothing about it that makes me want it, especially when I feel more connected to cars like an E63S, AMG GT 4-Door or CTS-V (which I guess you could consider competitors since they are mid-sized). Price is the biggest issue that this car has, anytime I would think of someone purchasing this car, I can't help but think of how for the same price as a moderate or nicely equipped Taycan, you can get both a 718 Boxster/Cayman, a true sports car, hell you could even do a base 911, and pair it with a daily driver Tesla Model 3 Long Range or Performance. |

Most recently I have read that Porsche has yet to decide what route they will go with the Boxster/Cayman. EV is a very real possibility but not set in stone yet.
