Well its been for sale for nearly a year but I finally found a buyer at the right price. I've had it for a little over 4 years and 8000 miles. Its definitely one the last of a dying breed as the new mid engine Ferrari's like the F8, 488, and SF90 are all forced induction and don't carry the same 9000 rpm redline. The car wasn't as fast as my GTR, my BM3 stage 1 M3 would probably give it a run for its money to be honest. But the handling, drama, and emotion the car gives was awesome. for any car nut, seeing that horse on the steering wheel definitely pulls some strings in your brain. You don't even need to ring it out to have fun with it on the street as it has a very broad powerband.. something like 400 ft/lbs of torque under 3000 rpm. And with the mid engine layout it puts the power down ALOT better than the M3.

overall cost of ownership isn't too bad especially when you consider the MSRP of it was close to $300k. I bought used so it cost me about 50k all together with depreciation, service, maintenance over 4 years. Not bad when you consider a new M5 lease costs this much... of course with the M5 you get a lot more miles to use and a warranty in case something catastrophic happens. I rolled without a warranty because I did my research and these cars are fairly bulletproof.

What I didn't like was that the Ferrari market is so picky about mileage. And the fact its not available in a manual. I missed manual so much I bought my f80 to shift gears, and to take take some of the mileage off the 458 otherwise i'd be driving it 5000 miles a year instead of the 2000 I average.

I found myself worried about mileage all the time. planning out mileage for trips every year. and worrying about where I would park it because it gets too much attention and there was always the risk of door dings / scratches. In a way the car was owning me instead of the other way around.

It'll be replaced with a 991.2 GT3 6 speed most likely. I would consider the 992 gt3 but I only have 6 months to use my tax credit (which if I don't use i'll be flushing $10k down the drain). Plus there is no guarantee i'll even get an allocation for a new GT3.

Congrats on being able to own and enjoy a special car. Your choice of next one, particularly in a Manual is also most enviable.

yes

annual maintenance is about 1k a year
depreciation was about 45k total over 4 years.

I guess it was a little more as the springs, spacers, install, and then the clear bra were another 5-6k on top of that. I also didn't factor in property taxes.

Wow! That would have been hard to let go of.....beautiful and still probably one of my top three cars of all time!! Would love to get into a 458 some day

I tried ebay and autotrader. I honestly didn't get a ton of legit offers. That partly may be due to me living in Missouri as someone would have to fly out here to look at the car. There are also no Ferrari dealerships here, although the place I took it to is a well renowned Ferrari indy shop that had an F40, 288 gto, and 67 gtb-4 in the service bay that day. Still, that shop is a 2 hour drive away. And i don't trust shipping the car with it being so low. it would have to be a hydraulic lift gate type trailer. So when the Carfax looks blank for 4 years people get gun shy. The car also doesn't have a front lifter which turned off some buyers.

I would imagine though the car would move pretty quick if I lived in socal or Miami.

I was itching to sell it for the longest time

but when I finally dropped it off the shop for a ppi it kinda hit home and I definitely had a moment of cold feet lol.

oh well. 458's were produced in mass quantity so it wont be a problem to get another down the road in case I don't like the GT3.

Wow! beautiful Ferrari!! Dont think I could have let go of such beauty. I would not care if either or is faster....its a Ferrari. I hope I am able to purchase one in the near future....pinnacle of car ownership. Congratulations!

The GT3 is awesome, you'll love it if that's what you wind up with. Have you considered an FF? So much car for the money, nice examples in the lower to mid $100's range. I just bought one certified with 2-year warranty for $100k (pretty high miles but can't depreciate much more than this and being certified I know it will have been sorted out already). Original MSRP was over $420k. The V12 is nuts. More comfortable than a 458, easier to get in and out, 4 seats that can all fit actual humans, don't have to worry about scraping on every dip, V12 sound. Some people don't like the looks, I personally think it's one of the best looking Ferrari's ever made.

I have found that when it comes to the GT3/458/other exotics type markets, high miles are a deterrant but only to a certain point. If the miles are high enough and the car is in good enough condition, you will always be at the entry level price point for the model and there will always be someone that wants to make the jump into the next tier of car at that lower price point. I bought my GT3 with 40k miles on it, put 3k on in about 14 months, and sold it for $1,000 less than I paid.

hadn't considered an FF as we already have three 4 door cars in the household (civic, TLX, and F80).

I am low key considering a F12 as they are in the low 200s now (the one in the first picture started up as I was leaving and it definitely trumps my V8 in sound), but after having front and mid engine performance cars I just prefer to have the motor behind me.

I'd love to have an F12 but it's hard to justify paying double the price versus an FF. When they eventually come down to the lower-mid 100's range I'll be very interested. I prefer mid engine too, but a V12 is a V12. There is nothing else that sounds like a V12 Ferrari

The GT3 actually had surprisingly good ground clearance. I never once scraped my driveway which is pretty steep. Even though I was using the front axle lift, it still felt like I could clear it without scraping. My M3's and C6 I've had in the past always scraped, every time.

As for the 458, personally I think you may regret it and I tel you why. Maybe I am getting old but basically anything made after the 458 looks pretty rubbish to me. Too many cuts and sharp sides and fake vents and flip ups and other appendages. The 458 is clean as a whistle BUT still looks like it was designed last week.

That and I think anything NA will appreciate over the next 10 to 15 years.

This is one reason Porsche has done well, for the most part their designs are still clean and not so damn messy.

you're probably right. modern cars like the 720, 488, new R8, performante are all just trying so hard to out do each other with the number of vents, hard angles, and grills. the 458 still looks very 'classy' by comparison. the air intakes are tucked under the car and behind the side window.

the car will probably appreciate over the coming years. But life is short, so many nice supercars and exotics to try and so little time. And having a manual for me is huge.. if they made a manual 458 it would have probably been my forever car. but the gt3 is the next best thing imo

I think you’ll love the GT3, very similar in their ethos with that screaming 6 cylinder. Also will be great to have a manual too, especially that short throw, sweet action 6 speed in the 3. They also seem to be holding very well in the market.
