I love animals but...
Are there sounds that make you want to stick pencils in your ears?
I thought I had only two until recently. 1. Screaming babies/kids. 2. Gas powered leaf blowers. Until now... A group of blue jays have taken up residence in my yard. Beautiful birds. But holy smoke do they make me want to reach for a .22 when they get going. Their calls literally comes through the walls. Why couldn't a group of doves or something nice sounding have moved in? Strange topic but does anyone know how to humanely get these shriekers to not like my trees? Here is a sound clip of the blue jay. Turn your volume all the way up before clicking start. This recording has nothing on the ones I have. Imagine this clip amplified about 5 times and several birds and that's my orchestra. http://animaldiversity.ummz.umich.ed....wav/view.html Is it just me or is that painful?

Sorry Gonzo I don't think I can be of much help. The noisy and aggressive jays can be hard to deter. I was told that an owl decoy works. But only for a short time. The good news is that they travel in groups which don't stay in one place for long. Another thing to do is remove any possible food or water source. As a last resort you could go outside and meow like a big ol cat. I'd pay good money to see that. Sorry, couldn't resist that last one.

I have seen these fellas dive bombing dogs and squirrels. I don't think I want to have a few cocktails and go try and pull off a cat impression. I may have seen them carrying off a small child too.

BB gun works. Or firecrackers. Point a bottle rocket at the tree, it's non lethal and works.
But I have a Lovebird as a pet and WOW you think that's annoying? Try having an incredibly loud shreeking noise at 9:00am in the morning when you are trying to catch some sleep. We have those same birds here on Long Island, I don't find their call that annoying. |

I don't know. But with halloween coming I still think a big cat costume would work. Maybe a cat themed party. A bunch of drunken party animals in various cat suits making animal noises. A prize for the best costume. Cat nip. And for the winner of the best cat impersonation. A clockwork mouse. The next morning you could watch the birds and several neighbors moving from the area.
