Tanzanite Paint Issue

First of all, I was so happy I made the jump from my RS3 to the 2021 BMW M4 competition. The bucket seats are awesome, the powertrain, handling and overall performance is another level compares to my RS3.

Back to the subject, my detailer spotted some haziness on the hood. and I thought that’s pretty normal for factory paint. I had him try to do 1 stage paint correction to see if they can be erased. Unfortunately, there is no change at all. Then we started to look around, same paint reaction appears to every single panel.

Fast forward, I reached out to Dealership (Beverly Hills BMW) for some help. They told me it's out of their hands in terms of the current condition. There was no records of the vehicle have been done to ANY paint work after the production. Which leads to me I am having a factory paint defect vehicle.

With my friend's suggestion, I made a service request to my closest dealer (Crevier BMW). at the end, I was told BMW has a TSE field rep goes to each dealer once a month, and it just HAPPENED that REP WAS THERE LAST WEEK LOL. ***let me know if this is case, if any member who works for the BMW***

Without a choice, I gave BMWNA a call to complain the current issue I
am having. Right now I am waiting for BMWNA to look at over this paint issue. Hopefully I can get a good news by this Thursday.

Pics attached.

BMWNA is pretty good about new delivery paint issues. It will take a while. Such a shame. Pretty car.

Have you experienced similar paint issue before?

Something could happen during shipment? BMW has tight tolerances on paint jobs before it leaves the factory.

There is a possibility. But PDI should find this out right away. And the Dealer claims there is no documentation of any sort of paint issue from Factory to them. I only had it for two weeks and becomes very noticeable. Which makes me to believe the Sun and the Heat reveal them.

To my untrained eye, that looks like it could be a clear coat repair attempted at the VPC. The fact that is also on the carbon tells me that it could be overspray once the car was assembled. I’m sorry you have to deal with this. Please keep us updated.

Lol no they do not. Hence this customer's situation. Detailers have better standards for paint. If you think the manufacturers can't deliver a car with perfect paint then you are gravely mistaken. They just don't want to for what I'm sure is a multitude of reasons including time/labor/money/etc.

That's definitely something BMWNA should make right.

This...the carbon roof is assembled after the body is painted.

Orange peel yes. Not cloudy spots in the clear coat. This seems to be some sort of VPC issue. Cloudy spots in the clear coat from the factory is the stuff of a 1988 Hyundai Excel..

Someone here posted years ago a tour of the VPC here in SoCal and they mentioned something about the VPC not having to inform the dealer of any repairs under a certain threshold.

I believe it's 10% which is a lot for just paint. BMW vs Gore. I had an issue years ago with a 528. Painted at VDC. About a month in you could see color variation from rear door to tear QP. Made them take car back for not disclosing. They wanted to repaint and then even replace door. I was not having it.

I have seen this car in person, it truly is astonishing this car could pass ANY QC at ANY level. The only thing that makes sense if the reaction which caused the issue was latent and manifested itself after delivery.

If that was not the case, BMW at every level of handling should be embarrassed.

The good news is the car is going to be inspected tomorrow. I have urged the OP to demand nothing less than a new car. As his attorney, I will make sure that happens.

I think the smoking gun here is the issue on the carbon fiber. The carbon fiber and painted bodywork are finished separately. The only way the carbon AND the blue paint share the same issue is something were done to the paint after the car was assembled. I think that points strongly towards some sort of sloppy repair at the VPC.

BMWNA had the Crevier scheduled the inspection by the BMW technician last week.

Today, 7/7/2021 the inspection was done by the dealer and BMW. I will just wait for the result back from them.

Any news from that inspection? Pretty curious.
