Polestar 2

Curious if anyone here owns or has driven a Polestar 2. I'm fed up with Tesla pushing back my delivery date week after week and am looking to ditch them and go for Polestar, if it's worth it.

From the vast number of reviews I've seen it seems like if you can get past the range and price, its not bad but overall seems like an overall meh/sub-par EV and vehicle. I think the Tesla even with its many "quirks" is still the best EV out there, especially in regards to charging infrastructure and EV drivetrains. I would just wait, I assume the issue with delivery is the chip shortage as these cars are so tech heavy. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 though look to be the best new competitors that have my interest so far. I also enjoyed the Mach-E although looks to share typical first year Ford issues, and the VW iD4 is beyond lackluster.

Also Volvo has done a terrible job marketing these cars. I saw one Polestar 2 a year ago (with a broken fog light nonetheless) and that is it. No one knows these cars exist, they separated them from the now revitalized Volvo nameplate, and they aren't selling them at the hundreds of dealers that Volvo just put a ton of money into. I assume you can get them serviced there but the overall talk about the Polestar 2 has been pretty much non-existent.

I agree with everything you said. Unfortunately time is not on my side and I need a car ASAP. Tesla was scheduled to arrive last month and is now estimated for late September. I won't be working from home much longer so it will be a huge issue in the coming few weeks. I adore the Ioniq5 but still not sure when they'll be arriving and what kind of terrible payments they'll have, granted this chip shortage issue. Polestar is the best option so far as far as EV's go. Shame the i4 couldn't have been here sooner.

I'm not sure as to what the Polestar ordering process is like but I assume they locate a car or something for you within a week? Only other EV that you can pretty much buy right now is a Mach-E. Don't Tesla stores usually have cars you can buy off the lot? Or do they just not have cars due to the chip shortage. Other than maybe rent a car for the time being? There really aren't any good low cost EV's out there other than the Tesla pretty much.

The Polestar 2 looks like a sedan version of the Aztek. Tesla's are ugly, but the Polestar is somehow even worse. If you want an EV, the Mach E does seem like the best immediate choice.

Would love to. Being marked up 10k + on sticker around here, and they all happen to be Premium models hitting $80k.

Polestar's site claims delivery within 2 weeks. Tesla doesn't seem to have anything available unless you order it. Very annoying process. There aren't any decent prices in general out here. The Model 3 we ordered is monthly $10 cheaper than a Kia K5 GT Line. Everything else is a disaster, except Polestar which is roughly $30 more than the Tesla.

If you live near a Polestar dealer (if those exist) I'd definitely see if you can try one out. I'd never order a car site unseen.

Scheduled a drop-off test drive. They'll be bringing the car to my house for a 30 min drive. Should be fun.

Oh that's nice, will be very interesting to hear what the Polestar buying/driving experience is like.

Just got back from the drive and I was actually very impressed. It's silly quick, handles surprisingly well, hides its mass and stays flat and unbothered through turns. Bit of wind noise that was more like buffeting, but even with the Ohlins dampers it rode very well. Great fit and finish, the Android tablet is super simple and easy to live with. Almost made me wish iDrive was modeled the same way Now let's see if the numbers surprise me too.

Good to hear some impressions of the car, especially since the overall talk/news about the Polestar 2 has been pretty much dead after its launch. I really believe Volvo could have a more successful vehicle if they properly marketed it and sold it under the Volvo name and at Volvo Dealers. Did you find out if the car is serviced at Volvo? Or does Polestar come to you like the test drive?

I agree about the Android OS tablet. I used it in a XC40 EV and it was fantastic, plus has Google Maps, Spotify, and Google Assistant available, which means CarPlay isn't necessary. Very intuitive, and much more responsive than Volvo's previous Sensus OS.

The lady who dropped the car off said there's a Volvo dealership nearby that is bringing Polestar to the building. They have some cars in stock as well. If you live within 150 miles of a Polestar "space" they will offer the valet service with pick up and drop off, which I luckily do. There's also a "connect" button in the car to send Polestar roadside assistance if necessary.
There has been almost 0 marketing and I definitely agree that this would have been better off as "Volvo Polestar 2". I'm sure the crossover will have a much more noisy launch but considering how good the 2 is, it's a shame there isn't much talk about it.

Get on car gurus dot com and look around. You can find one and have it shipped for a reasonable fee, and avoid that mark up.

Polestar has been showing the model 2 at the most fashionable mall in greater Phoenix...Scottsdale Fashion Square [this week Lucid opened its store at the same mall).

My biggest concern with any BEV is charging network. I don't know about the LA area but I checked to see if the vaunted "Electrify America" had any chargers near me and there was nothing closer than about 40 miles and I live in a city. IF and when Tesla opens its charging network to others I might consider a non Tesla BEV (as opposed to my PHEV).

40 miles...yikes. It'll be nerve racking if the closest stations all end up being dozens of miles away during a longer drive. Curious to see how Superchargers going public will affect people buying EV's in general. Hopefully intrigue people to buy something other than a Tesla. A few years back it was a rare sight to see a Model 3 or any BEV. I see 3's more than I see Prius' at this point. Curious to see how things will change in the years to come.

I've only seen a couple, it looks halfway between a sedan and crossover. A buddy of mine test drove one and said it's nice but not that fast but that the interior is a knockout.

I think the main advantage of Tesla is the charging network. But if you have a reliable source at home or work then I think you should take a strong look at Polestar. Everybody drives a Tesla, to me there is nothing special about them. Why spend all that money to blend in with the crowd? At least with Polestar you are driving something unique with a Scandinavian flair to it.

It definitely doesn't punch you like a Tesla dual motor would, but once you floor it at a lower speed i.e. 20 to about 60, it shoots off. The model they provided was a fully specced sport package with the premium interior. Need to drive a base model to see how it really feels. Hopefully still more Volvo than Geely...

Looks nice on vids. Would have to see in person....it's a weird design. I test drove both Tesla and Mach E and didn't like them
