Not sure what your are really looking for as an answer. Yes the paint will get swirls, chips, nicks, scratches without out PPF.

I did on my 21' that got totaled, and I decided against it on my 22'.

In between waiting for the new one to come in I decided.. why the hell would I just keep it in mint condition for the next owner? That's really all it's going it's to do since I only ever planned to keep it for 3 - 5 years. Didn't seem to make sense for my particular case and wouldn't add any additional value during the trade.

Sure I might get some rock chips but like.. I can just get paint correction from my detailer if it bothers me that much. Plus i've heard that the PPF can have problems itself that can start appearing after some time, although I guess it's supposed to "self heal" or something.

I bought my car and typically keep them for about 6-7 years. I did a full clear bra mainly because I daily drive the car and like the peace of mind that it gives me. Washing the car is a lot easier and my black car is a few months old now with 2500 miles or so and still looks good.

I haven't had PPF on any of my past/current vehicles and don't plan on getting it for my G80.

I think the value of PPF primarily comes down to peace of mind and convenience. Unless you track your car, I don't think the cost of detailing out swirl marks and repairing the occasional minor paint chip or two will ever be greater than the upfront cost of PPF. It would take something pretty significant, like getting scraped in a parking lot for it to be worth it, but that's the peace of mind you get.

Generally speaking, I rarely get paint chips and love nothing more than detailing my car myself, so the value proposition isn't there for me personally.

I guess I'm just looking to see experiences of how well the paint holds up without the added protection.

I've been thinking that partial PPF would make sense, as I would intend to keep the car for a long time. But I'm also considering Tanzanite, and I've read it's a pain to keep clean so maybe full PPF would make that job easier.

I would never skip frontal PPF on a car worth more than $50K. I'd never skip full body PPF on a car worth more than $100K.

But this is just based on real world experience for where I live. If you live somewhere with perfect roads with zero tiny debris and no traffic, and you have only professional detailers wash your car, then naked paint is okay.

Not interested. Cars age and will never look brand new if you drive them. There will be dings, scratches, dents and accidents along the way. Just learned to live with it as fact of life and enjoy driving. Life's too short to worry too much about metal and plastic.

I'm getting Dravit Grey so I'm torn on whether I should. it won't be a daily driver and not driven in any inclement weather. Also I'm not a person that drives on someone's bumper but I heard this color is hard to match.

Never did. Never considered it. I've bought at least 10 cars in last 12 years. I could count on one hand the number of rock chips I had. By my math I'm ahead at lease $20-$30k. My last 3 cars have zero chips. I'm sure I had a few in the 12 years but nothing memorable and nothing worth spending thousands on.

It really depends on so many variables based on if it's a daily driver, weekend car, freeway driven, used in winter months, do you tailgate, do you often find yourself behind big trucks, etc. My G80 is the first car I have ever gotten PPF put on as well as ceramic coating.

My reason for PPF this time around was because my X3 M40i looked like absolute shit after 2.5 years. So many little chips on the front bumper area. However I did a lot of freeway miles during those years and I think that played a big role in all the chips. The freeways here are full of little rocks and debris due to all the landscape trucks and others that don't fully cover their loads. I just don't want my G80 to look the same after 2.5 years, especially given that I got an individual color. Although I'll probably be putting a lot less miles on this one due to change in commutes.

My reason for ceramic on this car was just for the hopes of easier maintenance and not spending as much time detailing it, even if I really do enjoy spending that time. Free time just isn't as readily available nowadays with the little ones getting a bit older.

Protection against stone chips is just a bonus for me, it is the car park dings and scrapes from other careless owners that I have reaped the benefit from as well as the bumper scrapes you get in low speed environments like carparks. (as commented by other people, it seems no matter where you choose to park someone will park next to you, and in Australia the parking spots are tight). Also my car has emerged unscathed from brake levers scraped along the bonnet from my kids manoeuvring their 'rides' around my cars in the garage.
As with anything like this, perceived value is dependent upon the individual, I see it as of value because of the risk assessment of my operating environment. If I did not have kids and lived in the country, would maybe not have the same view.
I would not hesitate to get on any other car I purchase that is above a certain price.

Didnt think of it until i joined this forum.. felt like everyone was doing PPF.. I am considering doing front PPF for that ease of mind. I dont need full for a vehicle that I might get rid of in 3 years.. I am purchasing mine full too but tax free area.

I've never done it. I generally keep my cars 3-4 years and this one will only be around 1 year. It's not worth it for short ownership.

If you plan on keeping the car get at least the front done. You should 100% ceramic coat the car whether or not you get PPF. I’m doing full PPF because I’m planning on keeping this car for a long time. If I was just leasing for 2-3 years it would be a different story.

Front only. And even then it’s kinda dumb how much they charged. $2000 for bumper hood and fenders is just crazy but oh well

I didn't get PPF. Does the car have one or two little paint chips? yes... am I mad about it, no. it is what it is.
