Cleaning Exhaust Covers

I'm wondering how best to clean the exhaust covers on my M440.

My old 3 series had chrome tips, so I used steel wool to scrub the grime off and then chrome polish. Once I put a few thousand miles on my new car, I assume simply scrubbing the exhaust covers with a wash mitt will not remove all the exhaust grime.

Suggestions as to best cleaning method? Thank you.
