Do you have enough time in your day?
Since retiring I've found that I don't seem to have enough time to do everything I need to get done in a day. When I first retired, my day used to consist of breakfast, email, some surfing (news, forums, etc), then a bike ride, then lunch with Wifey, then some house chores, and finally making dinner most nights. But lately I've started down two rabbit holes and gotten myself involved in a project with a former colleague and those new things take up a lot of my time. I've cut back on my morning routine so I don't drag out breakfast/surfing nearly as long, and I'm (unfortunately) skipping my rides so I can do stuff in the rabbit holes (house upgrades/automation and landscaping). And my project with a former colleague is aerial mapping some local trails and cemeteries and (if it works out) parts of our town. I do some image processing and usually join him on the drone flights. I'm often shocked at how fast the day goes by. I'm like, "Wait, wait, I still have stuff to do!" I tell people that retirement is the busiest job I've ever had.
Anyone else hurting for time?

when you wake up early because you want to attack the day doing cool things then that's the best.

My parents and my wife's parents are all retired and all complain about how busy they are and how little time they have. I cant fathom why. My wife and I work upwards of 60 hours a week each. Our parents have like 4 doctors appoints in a month and they are freaking out over how "busy" they are.

Legitimately was just thinking to myself - "I need to clone myself" because I need more time to handle some things. Also, having two of me just seems like a bad idea.
The day was shit for sure - what could go wrong definitely went wrong but just as I plopped down on the couch to unwind, my driver from earlier called because he found my wallet in the backseat. But no, time is my most precious commodity. Don't matter how much money you have, your connections, beauty, fame, et all, nobody can acquire more time. |

I can relate; i have a neighbour who genually thinks he has a busy day when he has to send an email and make a phonecall. So, with some people it may all be in the eye of the beholder. But i can also imagine that, when retired, you're finally gonna pick up the hobby or chores you've always wanted to do when you were still at work but just did't get done. Or you subconsciously make up things to do, because you want to be busy. Things that you would not do in your 'working life'. |

Not retired quite yet and, no, I have never had enough time in any day so far. After I retire in late summer we'll hope that gets much better!

The day has 24 hours and if this isn't enough, I'll take the night additionally
For me its a known fact that retired ppl within my circle are having much less time as they were employed. For what reasons ever, its also a known fact that the older you get, it seems the faster the time is passing by. In my job I could use the phrase 'time flies' and sometimes after a busy day with 3 or 4 legs Im glad to had it done for the day. Actually I had made no real plans for retirement but from my POV of today there are plenty of things to do and yeah, I could also imagine to encounter the "too less time for a day-syndrome" too.

My day consists of:
4:30am - Wake up 5:10am - At the gym 6:50am - leave gym 7:00am - at work Between 5:30 and 7:00pm - leave work 9:30pm - Bed Definitely not enough time in the day. And that does not include the days I leave work just to go home and work more. I am lucky to enjoy my work though, so that is a plus. But it definitely pisses the wife off lol. |

Everyone has the same 24 hours. The whole "I don't have enough time" phrase is a misnomer. It's more about prioritization. Saying you "don't have enough time" for something means it's not something that you prioritize over other things you're already doing.
I use this methodology a LOT at work. I don't feel some sort of heroic commitment or loyalty to my employer where I'll gladly take on additional work and work long 14 hour days to get things done. That was me when I was first starting out in my career. Now? "ok so in order for me to get this task done, what should I deprioritize?" It's worked wonders for my work-life balance. p.s. why does my post make me feel like it was written by a bot?

You're retired and don't have enough time in a day?
It's good to stay busy, for sure, but I don't think any of us have what we consider to be enough time in a day. I'm still trying to figure out how to have enough time for adequate sleep.

It's true. And as someone here mentioned, I'm catching up on long neglected jobs around the house that I never had time to do when I was working.

Then about 6 years ago I went full time in my own business so wfh since then. I don’t have time to do ANYTHING! Or at least that’s how it feels. I mean honestly most days my actual work takes very little time but just between regular chores, house projects etc I feel like time flies! I also feel like the years have been going by quicker and quicker, but that might be another topic for the old people thread. |

Old age and slowing down
When I was working at my dad's mom-and-pop TV store many years ago, a memorable thing happened.
A lady called to complain that her TV was "fuzzy." The fellow who answered the phone was a part-time high school kid, so he asked me for some advice. I said, "ask her if she had tried adjusting the fine-tuner." He posed the question and the lady replied, "Young man, I'm 89 years old and I don't have to do anything if I don't want to." We laughed about that one for years. Now that I'm retired, I better understand what she meant.

Just when I thought I would have all this time to do whatever I want and finally finish all of those not quite completed projects. I've heard said from many that there will continue to be a time crunch in retirement. So when I retire at the end of this year, I will continue to use the work-life skills of project management and multi-tasking, etc. only for what I want to do. I just can’t wake up without a plan, it’s how I’m wired. Even if that plan is ‘no plan’ and take the day as it comes. What’s tough for me now is the anticipation, reminds me of my 19th year in the Navy and I got a serious case of ‘short timers attitude’. I don’t want to wish my life away but damn, after 18 years in this position I struggle with how this last year seems to be dragging out. Oh and by the way, I work in healthcare so the last couple of years have been quite challenging anyways.

I have enough time. Exec job at a large corporation, not retired.
In my professional life I’ve gotten my job responsibilities and my work team to a point where it takes the amount of time that I’m willing to devote to earning a living. I delegate a lot of stuff and we are constantly rethinking our priorities and are ruthless about cutting out stuff that are secondary priorities we don’t have time to do. I do think i could rise even higher and make more money if i was willing to devote more time, but I’m not wiling right now. Things may change later in life. In my personal life, i just go to the point where i only do the things i want to do, see the people i want to see, and keep out of most people’s drama. I still have hobbies and a lot of friends, but they’re all at the point where i don’t have to do or see them every day and we’re all still cool. When i retire i guess i can ratchet up the hobby thing to where i can do absolutely everything, but that’s still far away. I’m not saying that i have all the answers - as we all know life happens and my carefully constructed bubble could blow up tomorrow. But i do invest a lot of time and effort in “curating” my days and I’m in a good place rn |

A lot of my time lately is taken up *waiting* for contractors to arrive and/or do their thing once they do arrive. Like today, a roofing/gutter/siding contractor who was supposed to be here yesterday and didn't show finally texted me this afternoon to say they were leaving a town about 20 miles away and would come right here. Two hours later they finally showed up. The walk-around and measuring for the estimate took another hour. So dinner ended up being quite late. I had wanted to hit the hardware store today, but the day was over before I could get away.
