Bumper scratches, touch up good enough?
So my "husband" touched the garage pillar with the bumper and I was thinking of touching up just the deep cuts (sanding + basecoat + clearcoat brush) and then use the polisher with rubbing compound for the whole bumper side. Is my assumption correct that some of the bottom scratches do not need to be painted but will be buffed out by the polisher?
Would this be a decent fix? Alternative would be sanding it down, filler, then spray paint but that seems more work than I would like to do and I don't need it to be perfect. (Note the photo I took after cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol. It looked so much worse before.) |

This!
Don't let a nice car sit with a nasty touch up job. It will look terrible.

It's always best to just paint the entire bumper (less time consuming as well since you don't have to worry about feathering and blending). Ultimately it will look better with a uniform coat of paint on the entire bumper.

Car dealers can do it with paint spray can kit and it is undetectable, the preparation is the key to a good finish. |

That damage with bumper material missing will need to be done by a reputable auto body professional.
It won't be 100% perfect if it is a repaint as a rule. A really good auto body technician can repair the area and "blend" the paint to the surrounding area instead of fully repainting the bumper cover. The least intrusive will be to fill in the missing chunks of bumper material with touch-up paint and toothpick and leave the rest using a quick cutting and polish with a dual action orbital. |

1. There is only one way to fix this properly, and it isn't on your own.
2. If it's an old daily POS then don't even bother. 3. If it's newer and you don't care about ROI, then do what you want. Full bumper resprays are usually $600, which isn't much to have it done right IMO. |
