how many convertibles does BMW sell in the US every year?

how many convertibles does BMW sell in the US every year?

the last convertible that I had was a 318i E36 convertible. I was just thinking about it the other day. I bought it new and sold it 2 years later because I moved. It was a big mistake because I really loved that car.

these days, there are so few convertibles on the road... not even in areas that have nice weather most of the year.

The answer is not too many convertibles. Americans love stupid SUVs and pickup trucks.

I live in South Florida and you do not see too many BMW convertibles on the road. Fortunately, I do have one. 😉

that's a shame... I can think of more than a few nice roads for convertibles up there: GW Parkway, Great Falls... even Dulles Access Road(not the Toll Road) was real nice because of relatively few cars. Not to mention I-66 going west all the way up to the mountains.

Since only recently did BMW get back to soft-top convertibles on the 4-series, y'all may have been overlooking all the hardtop convertibles over the previous 15-years.

If you come to my house and do an Easter Egg hunt, you'll find seven BMW soft-top convertibles made from 1958 through 1987.

I’m doing my best to help the cause. I have a F33 and am itching to pick up a G29 manual. Once I get a little more garage space I’d love to add a M roadster and an E30 drop top.

Back to your question. Here is an excerpt from BMW Press Group’s website:

Over 55,000 units of the third-generation BMW Z4 have been sold worldwide to date. The most important individual market is Germany, where approximately 26 per cent of all cars from the current model generation have been sold. Following Germany is the USA (with 17 per cent), then China, the United Kingdom and Japan.

In a generally diminishing vehicle segment, the BMW Z4 has maintained extraordinarily consistent sales volumes since it went on sale. From day one, it has been by far the highest-selling model in a hotly contested class populated exclusively by German premium brands. And it has consistently increased its market share ever since.

I had a E93 M3 Convertible, took a break from BMW, and now have a G83 M4 Convertible. I am doing my best to swell the numbers....

That article is from 2022 and I am curious what the sales to date are for the G29?

Yes, sorry it’s a bit dated, but it’s right from the source so it gets part of the puzzle solved.

Current G83 owner, as I have leased a BMW vert for the past 20 years (expect for the pandemic affecting my F93 EOP build), but this might be the last time around as I’m strongly leaning towards a G82 when my lease is up within 12 months.

For sheer driving enjoyment, I don't anything beats a two-seat convertible roadster with a 6MT.

No problem. Both were purchased when I was stationed in Germany over two tours there. The 2009 E93 was a 6 speed manual, which I miss dearly. I brought it back to the US and then sold it 2014. It is somewhere in Ontario now as low-mileage example. I would love to buy it back if the opportunity ever arose.

The 2022 G83 came back with us in 2023. I now find myself overseas again, but not in Germany, so it should break 6,000 miles later this summer when I get home.

I guess that I will have to settle for being #2 on this list as I am pleased with driving a two seat roadster with the ZF8 transmission.

The soft tops that BMW brought back look hideous so maybe that's why you don't see many of them?

Much prefer the soft top to a hardtop. Can still use the trunk of my Z4 with the top down. It’s also really quiet with the top up.

My wife and I have had a convertible for most of our married life. First was a rotting 76 MGB that we restored completely, engine rebuild, metal replaced, interior completely redone including dash, new wiring harness, paint etc. Wasn't concourse quality but nice. Sold it at a loss and picked up a 98 Sebring. Severely underpowered. Eventually sold it for an '01 Z3 3.0. Loved it and regretted selling it. Replaced it with a non convertible 06 330xi which we sold 5 yrs later for an '11 Z4 3.5i. Absolutely a beautiful car. Regretted selling it too. It was replaced with a' 23 m440xi convertible. Not selling it. Ever.

The weather here in Nebraska isn't always top down weather but if it breaks 40°, the top goes down.
