2025 M5 vs 2025 Panamera 4

The panamera4 with some good options comes out as $150k ish.
The m5 with some Decent options $130k ish.

Now I know that these cars are quite different such as one being phev , other being gas but say if you’re shopping to buy a car and need to choose between these two, which one would you get and why?

For me, even though the panamera 4 is lil bit more expensive, it is so much more customizable with more standard color options etc. so kinda having a difficult time deciding. And plus I could also choose to put all season tires from the factory.

I would appreciate some thoughts.

Forget about other Panamera trims, let’s just talk about the Panamera 4.

visually nothing about the Porsche excites me. I see them all over my town and nobody even gives them a second look. Unless you are talking about a GT product I don’t think their cars are worth the premium price they command over the competition.

Up until I came across an M5, this was the car I was seriously considering.

I test drove it and was left deeply underwhelmed and I was really looking for any reason to like it. In standard Panamera 4 configuration, at 348 hp, with that weight (I get the irony) it was boring. Standard interior is lacking and needs the full leather.

It was comfortable and it has that very recognizable Porsche handling, which really IS a positive for this car. It’s solid and there are no creaks or squeaks.

But to get the Panamera 4 to “equal” footing with the M5 you have to spend at *least* $150k, and I feel I’m being conservative at that number. There is a Panamera trim out there optioned out that I would pick over the M5, but yeah I’d be paying $175k+ (again, conservative) for it….so M5 wins.

I type fast, forgive grammar and proofreading:

This is not really a competition but comparing apples and oranges for the sake of your question. Applying all my advice based on dailying a F90 cx and then having driven a panamera 4s actually pretty frequently of a family members:

Never heard exhausts notes on new M5 in person but I’ve heard it’s pops and bangs (NA version) are very good people say similar to G80. The Porsche is so plain Jane and no fun from it sound wise.

Handling: Porsche braking and movement have the edge but just barely the G90 have not driven but the weight def you’ll be able to tell in comparison to the Porsche being 1000lb less. I still thought the panamera handled Better than my F90 and they were the same weight class then. You aren’t tracking either car likely so you won’t notice.

I know you get many more options aka opportunities just to add things that literally just take your money when building Porsche but the M5 is best bang for your buck of any car around I believe.

Panameras are literally everywhere. I’ve seen maybe a handful of M5’s in the wild since owning one.

The 4s is literally not fast enough for me. I know you are getting a 4 but…But me being in the panamera 4s I was wishing I was back in my car for the torque and acceleration. No thrill.

Miata lovers…. M2 clan and stick driving daily bros bitch about the soul and the size of the M5, but it makes you feel like you are in the starship galactica and is the perfect daily (I have two toddlers in car seats in the back and a happy wife up front 3-4x a week driving). It has soul for my lifestyle and is great fun. I just don’t think the panamera has the same edge or fun to it at all.

Devils advocate of the hybrid set-up I’ve never been a fan BUT: you literally get an EV that you can save the environment, not piss off neighbors in the early morning cold start (I do everyday at 5am when I leave lol), save money running errands whenever you want on a charge. It’s such a dynamic and able car it appears with so many uses.

Verdict:
M5 is a daily super-car that is a sleeper, best bang for your buck and extremely dynamic. The Panamera 4 is def not a super- car but a gorgeous, simple DD with excellent Porsche genetics you certainly pay for.

Just my 2 cents, only trying to help you!

Lol.....if we were nitpicking in sci-fi geekdom, i'd say the M5 is much more akin to the Battlestar Pegasus She's big, brutal, state-of-the-art and an absolute beast. But the analogy is well-taken and it's apt. People want her to be like a Viper and that she ain't.

Everything else you're saying I agree with totally.

Panamera is common, but I still think her lines are pretty. Optioned out with Sport Exhaust, Sport/Sport Chrono, 21" RS or 911 wheels and some other carbon fiber bits and she looks classic and a bit mean, but then you're taking the price tag up a ton more and you haven't even addressed the 348hp issue.

Again, you can correct these issues with the Panamera but you have to throw lots of money at it to do so.

"Bang for the buck" absolutely goes to the M5, but as said, it really is Apples to Oranges mostly.

Had the f90 and the pre refresh Panamera GTS.

I cross shopped those two again this time around and the price of the Panamera ended that comparison. On top of the initial purchase price, Porsche lease terribly and the service maintenance is another add.

I actually have always liked the way the Panamera looks (I know) and have owned two GTS’s. But the pricing has exceeded my tolerance for the crest.

I get all the criticism for certain design choices and the weight concerns for the g90 but for what it’s worth BMW has kept the lid on their pricing. Do certain areas suffer, of course. But I bought a 2022 rs6 new for $127k and I actually ordered a 2024 Performance with a slight boost in power (30 HP), different wheels and a different color leather stitch for $145k. I ended up not taking the Performance when it arrived and ordered a g90.

Personally for me, it was/is an easy call.

G90 is gunna win most comparisons just because of it's price, especially against porsche who've decided it'll be 200k+ to get a decent car from them nowadays

Glad I asked here. Great comments and feedback thank you so much. Yes I agree that the m5 is the best in terms of price too. Porsche service sucks. I am going for the m5.
