Any newer Durango Owners out there?

The wife wanted to replace her Durango with another Durango, lol. I must say the new body style is quite stunning even though it is mostly a new front faschia. Loving the new LED lights and you can actually see the road now! The halogens in her 18' were terrible.

Not sure if would ever buy a car from a dying company that occupies the very bottom of the reliability rankings... but at least you didn't buy a jeep!

Being comfortable with a certain car is very important to many people, so in that way I totally understand. I am currently helping my wife learn a new brand and it's a bit painful at times.

Talking shit about reliability coming from a BMW forum... That's funny right there.

Love the Durango. Spent a lot of time trying to make a deal for a Hellcat Durango. Bought my X5 M50i because it was a MUCH cheaper alternative. Tried to make a few deals after I bought the X5 too, but BMW's shit resale made that not an option (that and the crappy dodge dealers all trying to avoid selling cars with all their bs add ons).

It's a great vehicle, not the most modern but robust outside of the racetrack lights. Plus they sound great, great materials inside, super comfortable, and great looking vehicles.

I don't really care what CR says. My X5 was in the shop more in 6 months than our expedition was in 3 years. CR's data is bullshit.

That said, I agree Stellantis is doomed. They got rid of the product people wanted, dealers and then overcharged the crap out of their customers, and Tavares ran the company into the ground by trying to shove crappy euro products off on America. They have nothing good in the pipeline. The SST Hurricane motor has seemingly significant reliability issues. They stopped making the hemi V8s that WERE their brands. So now if you want a Grand Cherokee, your options are the 4xe (not great) or the Pentastar (not great). The L version only offers the pentastar. Durango was their last product that offered a V8, it's basically the last real dodge.

The EV charger is a flop and it's not even released yet. The hornet was a massive flop. Wagoneer S is likely to flop. Stellantis is in total catastrophe mode, and I'm stunned they haven't announced they're bringing back the Hemi yet because right now it looks like their best days are behind them.

Best case for Stellantis, they split what's left of Mopar off and sell it to some sort of investment firm to turn it around.

Yes, anecdotal evidence based on a niche V8 TT version of 1 X5 is definitely more valid than a survey of the brand as a whole, likely encompasing tens of thousands of cars or more.

None of my X5's issues were engine related. They were all things that could have happened in any car they sold.

It has been my experience that BMW owners are far more likely to see things not as "reliability issues" than other brands. Maybe because reliability issues is like, engines blowing up in BMWs, whereas in a domestic car it's like, a taillight leaking water.

I have a definition for reliability: "Did the vehicle get me home?" In 36 years of BMW ownership (5 cars in total) encompassing just over 1M miles driven and tens of thousands of trips, I've had just two tow events where one of my BMWs didn't get me home. That's five (5) BMWs with an average chassis life of 19 years (during my ownership) and 227,700 miles.

I feel like "get me home" is the minimum expectation, and an easy bar to clear. I've only had that bar not cleared twoce, a leak in a brake line that rendered my then 15 year old Trailblazer SS inoperable, and a plastic shift cable grommet that broke a few months later. Both easily fixed overall. The transmission cable i fixed in the daycare parking lot that evening with a part that was on the shelf at advanced auto (because GM used the same grommet for literally every automatic transmission they sold for decades lol)

I set the bar for reliable higher. Cars shouldn't leak fluids. They shouldn't have parts fall off. They shouldn't burn oil. They should drive as new, with upkeep of parts like suspension consumables, indefinitely.

There may be a lot of reasons not to like CR, but their vehicle data is some of the best around as it comes from actual owners. This avoids the one-off "my X5 sucks" and gives a much broader data driven, not anecdotal view.

Anything with a B48+ZF8HP is reliable among modern BMWs.

The driver's cup holder in my E90 recently broke for the second time after 18 years.. It's a complex part, push in to automatically release it, push in to close. Spending 15 years and 20 hours a week in the car, I used it a lot. It cooked in the summer and froze in the winter. New OE part is $45. That's not going to make me call my E90 unreliable.

Waaaayyy back in the day I read CR's review of the '87 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. Their expert review included a rating of how easy it is to get out of the driver's door holding a bag of groceries. WTF. I've never taken any CR car review seriously since then.

And surely nothing has changed at that publication in 35 years... hell most of the people who ran the mag then are probably dead now.

I had some form of Mopar since '09, from all the brands. I still have my '22 RAM 1500. All have been solid no real issues with any of them. I think I took 1 Jeep in for some warranty work once. That said, thing have gone south in recent years, hopefully the new CEO can salvage the brand before it's driven into the ground.
I recently got back into an X5 and in the few months that I've had it, it has been equally as reliable, except for a slow tire leak that I think is from the valve stem.
The build quality on the BMW is definitely better than the Jeeps I've had. Good luck to the OP with the new Durango. Not sure if they changed, but I have a set of SRT seats if you're interested in swapping.

Only experience with durango was a rental. They had a bunch of boring stuff then I saw this durango with a hood bulge and HEMI written on it... fuck it why not!

Honestly apart from the horrendous gas mileage I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I later looked it up and I don't even think it was the fastest one or highest trim or what not.

Probably was a 5.7 R/T. Should have been decent on gas, like 17 city, 22 highway I'd guess. Assuming you can keep yourself from enjoying the exhaust sound that is.

Ever since I saw one of those durango hellcats break an axle at autocross I've been scared of anything Mopar...but then again I have a blown ball joint on a new ZR2, so I can't really say anything...except Raptor.

Can only speak on reliability of the 2018 Durango she had. It needed a new cam at 50k miles. Other than that it was a great vehicle. Much better than her Ford Edge which had issues all the time.
True the one issue she had was almost $3500 but the powertrain warranty took care of it. One issue in 6 years seems pretty good to me.

BMW has made massive strides with reliability in the past 10 or so years. Per CR and many other publications, they are some of the most reliable cars on the road. Expensive to maintain, sure, but overall quite reliable and miles ahead of VW/Audi, Benz, Jag, and Rover. Not even the same ball game. Porsche still remains pretty solid though their Audi-based SUVs are bringing down reliability numbers.

My 2016 M235 (ordered new) was ROCK solid. Minus one ECU update in the spring of 2017, it never required a repair by BMW or myself. All it did on that car was basic maintenance/preventive maintenance. That car was so good to me that I just got a 2018 M2 to replace it. My buddy has a 2015 X1 and his wife a 2020 X5. He's owned those cars for 4-7 years. No issues. Another friend has a 2016 328. No issues in 7 years of ownership.

Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep have been junk for decades and managed to get worse under Stellantis. They are bottom of the barrel in terms of short and long term reliability. Same with Jag, Rover, and now VW/Audi.

As for the newer gen Durangos, ask a highway patrol officer their thoughts on those. The highway patrol has had a hell of a time dealing with reliability problems in those trucks. They're going to Ford F150s now as Ford saw a market option for extended cab 4X4 F150s for the highway patrol. The most reliable part on the Durango is that ZF 8AT
