Just picked up my new M5, need settings help
Realize I drove all the way home in hybrid mode not using the gas engine at all. Finally when I got home realized when I hit the M2 button the engine cranked up. Honestly, unless I specifically want to be strictly electric, I want the gas engine on all the time. Hope that doesn't mean I have to hit the M button at startup every trip. And if I do, what are the appropriate settings for a daily mostly gas powered commute?
Also, has BMW finally gone the way of other carmakers and disabled functionality until a certain milage? There are certain options that appear greyed out in the settings. |

If you want strictly ice mode u have to use Econtrol so no electric involved
Otherwise it will be dynamic mode or dynamic plus that uses both but engine will always be engaged |

You didn’t get the option that gives you the two additional modes is all.
the M Drive Professional package for the BMW M5 introduces two additional drive modes: Dynamic and Dynamic Plus. These modes are designed to enhance the vehicle’s performance characteristics, offering a more engaging and responsive driving experience. In addition to these modes, the M5 comes standard with HYBRID, ELECTRIC, and eCONTROL modes, allowing drivers to tailor the car’s performance to their preferences and driving conditions. sounds like you need to read the manual to brush up on what the hybrid settings all do, that's my plan when mine shows up.
With my G87 I have M1 setup for normal use and M2 for when I want to rip around. It's personal preference on what those 2 things mean for you but they are all the same settings for me except in M1 dampers are in comfort and traction control is fully on. You quickly get in the habit of hitting M1 when you hop in the car, I don't even think about it at this point it's automatic, just think of it like a 2-stage startup hit start/stop with right hand then hit M1 with left hand. |

Hybrid means electric/gas combination. Your G90 will go between the two depending on the power needed. You can tell on the instrument cluster on the right whether it is using electric or gas engine by the RPM meter. Blue means electric. Red means gasoline.
You 100% drove back home utilizing a combination of both electric and gas if you were on hybrid mode. |

So if you're in Econtrol mode, does it still use the electric motor or is it strictly ICE? BMW tries to make this as complicated as possible... Coming from M6 to M6 to F90 M5, to 2 M8's I feel like I need a class.

I believe it shuts down the electric motor and runs strictly on the V8. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but shutting down the electric motor removes approximately 194 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque to the wheels.

My m1 and m2 both set to “dynamic plus”
1) m1 with lowest drive logic and rest all comfort 2) m2 with highest drive logic and rest all sport or sport plus (I reserve this for those occasional extra spirited driving) For me anything below is a non starter. I only use hybrid when I’m backing up in my garage as the exhaust on this car shakes my dining rooms glass lighting fixtures.. as I have said although this car is super quiet but it has a mean deep throated hum that you can feel unlike the f90. Which I love because it sounds expensive and refined |

In Hybrid mode, you can also turn on ICE by doing one of two things:
1) Set “Drivetrain” to Sport or Sport Plus. 2) If you don’t mind using paddles, put it into sequential shift mode as others have said, set up one of your M steering wheel buttons to make it quick and easy. |

As a guy who hasn’t driven a car in the last 15 years that got more than 15 miles per gallon, I have enjoyed the daily commute the last several days driving in hybrid mode (almost all electric) getting 70 mpg. You’ve got an absolute beast when you want it, but can have a comfortable gas conserving well behaved sedan the rest of the time. Love this car so far.
