remote starting the engine?
Is there a way to cold start this g90 m5 remotely or thru the key fob? I’m talking about the engine, especially in these cold winter days….

So I wonder if there is no requirement to warm this car up??? I mean if we warm up battery mode and start driving and hit an up hill and the engine just gets a rude awakening… isn’t that bad?

I initially thought that the batteries will warm us the engine temp...so I checked the oil temp after preconditioning and they were low and the engine did not sound warm on start up I am sure bmw thought about that Dono |

For BMW, the car just needs to last for the duration of the warranty, and everything past rhag is really not their concern. So I would not be surprised if they just disregarded that part of the issue…

There is a benefit to leaving it on off, if the car is in your garage and you activate pre-conditioning then the car will warm itself up in the winter without starting the engine. Have not tried cooling yet to see if it is AC or just air.

Warm up the interior cabin in E-mode only it looks like. Hit M1 and wait 20-30 seconds for the RPMs to drop. Not a big deal. Doesn't require a lengthy warmup for the engine.

Does the manual mention anything about warm up? If BMW is somehow warming up the oil and getting it circulating even while the engine is off then I could see this being a non issue longevity wise. I just don't see how they can run the oil pump which is usually driven by the engine. Alan

I could be wrong but from my recollection... no BMW hybrid nor partial EV gets remote start... the X5 50 and 45e don't either... they may get pre conditioning which is different but this doesn't turn on the engine... sadly this means you can't listen to the roar of the exist on startup outside.

The main issue with running a PHEV in hybrid when the engine isn't at full operating temps is it causes fuel injectors to clog and go bad. Happened on my '20 Cayenne E Hybrid, was still in warranty, would have been a $2700 hit if paying out of pocket. On my '25 XM I use cabin preconditioning, and yes it runs the AC in the summer and heat in the winter, then drive in M2 settings until the engine is warmed up (currently running in E Control as I haven't quite hit 1,200 miles on the '25 XM). Doing the same thing on my '24 Cayenne S E Hybrid, no issues doing this in either vehicle.

Additionally it will do it while you charge and the vehicle is plugged in if you have times set. Last edited by DocWeatherington; 01-11-2025 at 05:17 PM.. |

Agree but emissions and probably some credit they get. To be honest off the EV side it will run for 30mins and the interior warms up/cools down pretty fast in the XM. So the m5 likely is no different as its 2.0 and probably does it better.
Modern motors warm up pretty fast anyways |
