M5 g90 2wd mode

Hi everyone!
I just completed the first service on my new M5, and naturally, I decided to test how it drifts. However, I ran into an issue: in rear-wheel-drive mode, the car absolutely refuses to spin the wheels. It feels like the stability control kicks in — the car closes the throttle even when it’s sideways in a corner.
Also, the car won’t shift gears while the wheels are spinning.
Does anyone know what could be the issue and how to fix it?

You can drift the car even break-in pre-service (though not recommended); did you turn off DSC? two wheel drive with DSC on is still going to cut power, but with DSC off, the car gets around incredibly easy.

Yes, dsc off, 2wd enabled, but when it begins wheel spin it cuts power off even when you go straight
I had m3 g80 awd and m5 f90, and everything was great, but on new m5 I can’t understand why it happens
Here I downloaded video of this issue
https://youtube.com/shorts/3OV_Zpwg2...2hg_nqV07GSJ2d
As you can see, whe I flat out it doesn’t start to wheel spin

In RWD mode you disable DSC and traction control. HOWEVER, is your car equipped with the 10 stage traction/DSC that needs to be off or at zero. This is a feature the G90 got from the G80.

Based upon what you said its likely on

Go into your settings and check. I think you likely left someone on.

In the video above skip to 3:58

You don't need to have the car past the break in period to drift the car. While not the most impressive drifts, it is very easy to get this car around when you turn dsc off and put it in 2wd..

https://youtube.com/shorts/U3wk7BAQY_k

Conditions were a mix of dry, wet, slushy, so getting the car to hold the line was sub-optimal.

On a slippery surface, everything goes fine, but this happens on dry asphalt.

Your M5 G90 appears to have some sort of traction control still kicking in. This is weird.

Exactly, and I don’t understand how to switch it off
A have both m driver package and m drivers professional option, but there is no drift analyzer and 10 position TC, so I don’t think it’s available on g90

Can you later post a pic or video of your M Setup and the M X-drive screen?

If you have the M drivers professional option..you have the 10 stage traction control even with "DSC off" and in RWD mode.. it needs to be set to zero.

Per BMW's USA builder...

In the video skip to 3:58 it's going to show how to turn it off.

In the video below it should be in the same spot as its ID8.5

If its not popping up take it to the dealership as a) it's not not installed b) there is something wrong with your car or c) could be disabled until it hits x mileage or break in service.

So speaked to dealer, and he says, that in a new M5 M drive professional option gives you 1) m Laptimer 2) additional modes of hybrid (dynamic and dynamic plus) 3) boost mode

TC and drift analyzer not available on m5 (I live in Europe, so maybe in US there’s different situation

Maybe in your country it doesn't allow traction fully off. If dsc is fully off its fully off and should allow full spin and rotation if your car isn't equipped with it.

DSC what 4 seconds hold down, it should be off to engage rwd mode.

You may want to find someone that can code the software to fix it.

😞 no easy drifts for you.

Perhaps it's a specific government regulation in your country.

Maybe an option is taking it to a different dealership in another country and getting them to upload there version of software since your in the EU if they can't do it.

I really don’t think its government regulation, we have very loyal laws that regulate car specifications, and my m3 2023 drifted like hell

In m5 it feels like a problem with a car, because you know, when something like TC or dsc is still on, it never gives you to spin, but in my case on a slippery road it drifts
On dry road, it feels like an issue with a transmission or something else, because yesterday it even had a kick in transmission when I tried to slide a car. It really feels like a fail safe or something else that tries to limit torque

I hope it’s software issue, because I’ve got one of the first producted car (in November) and maybe it’s not up to dated to the newest software version
