Beware: B of A users...
So I get this email from Bank of America. Thing looks totally legit. It says that my online banking has been locked because of security issues and asks me to call or click a link to verify my information and unlock it. I call the 1-800# and it sounds EXACTLY THE SAME as BofA's automated system, down to the little them music and "press *33 for touchtone only."
It proceeds to ask for my social # and checking account #, at which point it started to smell fishy and I hung up. I called BofA and let them know about the email and they told me it's a known scam that's been going around lately. I'm posting this so that anyone else that uses BofA doesn't give those stupid scammers and potentially harmful information. If you want to hear the message, I'll post the # below so you can see how legit the automated system sounds. DO NOT ENTER ANY INFORMATION IF YOU CALL THIS NUMBER!!! 1.800.933.6262 |

Great.
What this has to do with the 3-series is beyond me, though. |

You'll be fine. Just to make sure, give me all the same info and I'll confirm that nothing is wrong.

Absolutely nothing to do with our cars, but I'm sure a lot of members here have some sort of account with B of A, and I'm also pretty sure that they frequent these boards as much, if not more, than they check their email. Hopefully, they'll read this first and know not to give out any information to the wrong place.

Wow, that's really odd considering the email came to an email address that wasn't associated with my BofA account (an email they don't have) and that I received an email back from BofA stating that they investigated the email and it is definitely a scam.
Wonder what is really going on... |

Ya, totally understand that. I'm saying that's odd, because the post above shows that the phone # is a genuine BofA phone number, but BofA emailed me and told me it's a scam.

from my understanding, no bank sends out e-mails asking their customers to verify anything online. always question anything that asks you to verify personal information.

good looking out, i get these emails all the time and i the first thing i do is look at the bogus email address trying to relate itself to BOA. Realistically, a bank will most likely never ask for a resubmission of personal information.

I called the number and entered all my information so I could get ahold of someone and ask them if this was for real or a scam
