What do you mean? You haven't seen numbers like that before? Don't forget there's a difference between b and B

"At home" do you use wired or wireless? The speeds you listed that you get at home are typical of home network setups.

A Megabit is 1,000,000 bits and a MegaByte should be 8,388,608 bits; however that term is sometimes bastardized into meaning 8,000,000 bits. So, a MegaByte is generally approximately 8 times a Megabit.

You'll also see Mips (Mebibits per second) from time to time whe people talk about data transfer, which are 1,048,576 bits per second.

Apparently megabit.

Mb = Megabit
MB = MegaByte

they have some sort of Fiber connection or high speed cable connection. Most likely you are not see the true speed since it could be shared with other users at the same time so that was what you got.

20 down 4 up isn't abnormally slow for a home network.

I'm at work too. My cable at home would be a bit faster down, but slower up.

people have a tendency of forgetting your download/upload speeds are much more based on the servers you're trying to download/upload to.....

you can have a 50/50 speed, but you won't be able to use it if you can't connect to a network that can supply/take the information at the same speed (why I love torrents)

I get speeds like that or higher at work. I'm sitting on a gig connection to the university's fat pipe. I've seen 70+Mbps down and 50 up. Although it doesn't really matter what your speed is if the server on the other end is on a slower connection. You still wait. I can download huge files from Microsoft in seconds, but it took 15 minutes to download a 25MB file from a company in Italy today.

its some sort of T1 or T3 line. mostly used for commercial purposes where theres hundreds of computers connected to the internet...they need all that bandwidth...i see on that image its some sort of school district..so that should answer your question.

you can get that kind of speed at home but be ready to pay $500+ per month..some into the thousands as well.

I think you have a typo. That's Mib/s not Mips. MIPS is millions of instructions per second.

Really can't say. Could be OC3 or greater, DS4, DOCSIS v3, etc. Too fast for a DS1 or DS3.
