Looking to get out of my lease with my Infiniti G35 (we have the 335i and now a new Prius as well).
I've been told to use LeaseTrader.com as the place to go.

However, I was once told that having someone else "take over your lease" still leaves the original lessee responsible if the person taking over the lease fails to pay or whatnot. Is this true?

What's your experience with LeaseTrader.com if you have (or personally know someone who has) used it before.

I took over a lease on 2001 Boxster S, and Porsche Financial did not release the original lessee from the lease. They just added my name to it. So yes, the original lessee was a little uncomfortable with the situation, as he didn't know me and just had to trust me to make the payments.

You have to read the fine print on your lease doc to see if you can transfer it and if they will release you. I doubt they will. From a business standpoint they would rather have two people to go after instead of just one if payments are not made.

We used Lease Trader also.

I listed a car on leasetrader, and got no action in 2-3 months. I tried to get the car removed from the website, and it took months for them to remove the car. I think that they pad the listings by not removing them in a timely fashion. Just my .02.

i used it to find someone who wanted to get out of their lease....but once I got in contact with the seller I did it directly through bmw financial and it all worked out...I am very happy with it...pm me if you want more details

It's a good service. My CA lists many cars there.

Liability all depends on the leasing company. American Honda and others will not allow you out of your lease, or to subrogate it to anyone else.

BMW, and I think Infiniti, will allow you to do this. The receiving party must fill out a lease application just like you did, and someone will have to pay some fees, but then the new lessor becomes responsible for the car. I think you even get your securtiy deposit back.

Through BMW finance, the security deposit will go to the new owner since they offer a full transfer of liability.
