MD - To Carry Concealed Firearm?

Quote:
It will become a lot easier to obtain permits to conceal and carry guns in Maryland as of Aug. 7 under a court order filed Tuesday by a federal district judge.

The order signed Monday by Judge Benson E. Legg gives state officials two weeks to implement his March ruling striking down a requirement that concealed carry applicants show a "good and substantial reason" to transport a firearm.

As long as the the proper procedures are done and they give the licenses to the correct ppl for the correct reasons then i see no problem. Maybe have the applicants go to some shooting class to ensure they know how to operate and shoot their HG properly

Not sure how it is in MD, but pretty sure most states require you go to classes to get a CCW permit/license. I know NC does.

i prefer not to have CCW , because with a CCW you are required to know the law..

Wyoming past a law last summer allowing people to carry without a license. You just have to be over 18 and no criminal background. Not sure exactly how clean your background has to be but there are no classes required either.

This is one reason I don't want to get a license. You get in more trouble carrying a weapon where you aren't supposed to when you have a license than if you don't because you are supposed to know.

I have my license to carry concealed and I carry everywhere it's legal. There really are only a few places you can't carry, and they're easy to remember.

I'm referring to who you can shoot and who you can't , where to shoot when to shoot. where to shoot him.I think they tell you all that in CCW class.

If you shoot someone or bring a gun to a no-guns allowed place , it won't matter whether you had CCW or not. Ignorance of the law excuses no one.

Use of deadly force is allowed if that force is necessary to prevent death, great bodily harm or the commission of a forcible felony. You shoot to stop the threat (head shots and double tap/triple tap center mass are generally a sure way to stop a threat). Once the "bad guy" is no longer a threat, you stop shooting.

And "smyles" is absolutely correct. Ignorance of the law is no excuse for violating it.

That must be FL law. Because I have a couple of friends that took the class one in MA, CT and NC , and they all say something different. Most of them pretty much preach the opposite , to avoid shooting someone.

You are right. That is FL law. As you pointed out, every jurisdiction can be a little different, and it is imperative that you know the laws of your own jurisdiction.

However, not every concealed weapons class instructors know what they are talking about when it comes to the law, although they all think they do. Your best bet is to look up the statute in your state and read it for yourself.

I will get to that when I have some free time , as for now I will take your advice in your first post. I've been a hand gun owner since 1998 and I've never had to use it until 2011.

Thankfully, I have not found myself in such a situation, and hope I never do. Mind if I ask what happened?

Carry in good health and be safe.

Armed robbery by 2 masked men . gave them the money 86 bucks and right when they turned around to run away I grabbed my 9mm and took one shot. They both ran off and I called the police. The detectives were really disappointed that there wasn't a body in the parking lot. Well about a half hour later the found a guy at the hospital with a gun shot wound in his right shoulder. case closed. I was out 86 bucks and my 9mm is still being held as evidence. Every gun owner tells me next time shoot to kill.

That's sort of insane. I'd be pretty upset if I got robbed, but I wouldn't shoot people as they are running away from me...at that point, what threat are they posing? I'd be too afraid I'd get locked up for using unreasonable force at that point. Not that I think they should just get away with it either...no right answer maybe. I suppose you were held at gunpoint or knife at the time? So if so, you wouldn't have been able to pull, could understand that.

If you had killed one of them as they ran away though (shot them in the back so to speak) are you seriously telling me Florida wouldn't lock you up for that? Seems crazy.

Probably not, but I am glad I didn't kill him by accident. I wasn't aiming at his head or anything. the kid was 6 ft tall and I'm only 5'5. Everything happened so fast and you're emotions/anger get the best of you. Staring into the barrel of a loaded gun while the gunmen scream and yell at you makes you feel like you're a piece of worthless crap. But after I let off one round it calmed me down. But if my family was threatened in any way i think I would've unloaded the clip in rage.
