Escort Max Radar Detector

I just ordered the new Escort Max radar detector.

I previously had the Escort 9500ix so I have high hopes for the performance. I have used the V1 before but I can stand all the false alarms. GPS lockout is a must for me.

Has anyone else taken the plunge and purchased the Escort Max? What do you think so far?

I have read a lot of positive as well as negative reviews.

Still rockin' the 9500ix. GPS lockout feature is very convenient.

Is the Escort Max a substantial improvement or did they give it the golf club treatment (new coat of paint and a new name)?

Would love to see some pics. Would also like to hear your impressions regarding how it compares to the 9500ix.

I had a V1 for a week. Drove me crazy. Felt and looked cheap in comparison to the 9500ix.

No offense to the V1 fanatics out there. If it works for you, keep using it.

Escort hypes it up to be a substantial improvement but we shall see.

The V1 didn't last long for me either. It went off every two seconds so I always figured it was another false alarm.

I will post pictures when I get it and give my impressions. It will take time to lock out all the falses where I live and then see how well it performs.

I have high hopes.

Also have the 9500ix. Let me know how you like the max. Thinking of upgrading to that if it's really better. The GPS lockout is the best. Had a v1 also, could not stand the false alerts.

I bought a V1 in 2005 and sent it back after one week as well due to the chattiness. Then I bought another one in 2009 and read the owners manual and discovered you could customize the settings and greatly reduce falses. Been on my windshield ever since. True story. I Don't trust GPS lock-out:

That being said the wifey drives with a 9500i and it has saved her countless times over the years. No speeding tickets, now if I could just get her to put the damn cell phone down...

I've had both the 9500 and currently the max. There is a big difference. I don't imagine radars getting any better than this. If you take long trips or a lot of highway invest in the BT cable. The app uses Google maps and anyone ahead of you with a GPS passport drives by a cop it will tell you exactly where that cop is on the map and how long ago he was spotted. The range of the radar is unreal and it's ability to weed out false alerts works great. The auto lock out works great too. I work on an airport and just driving to work a few times it auto locked all false signal. I don't think I've ever hit the lock out button once since I've owned it

Also, V1 has the stance that false positives are less problematic than a false negative, or being responsible for you receiving a ticket. That said, many people program out the stuff they don't want (x band, pop, etc).

If you know your area, you can customize the V1 to give a much better experience.

For example, California:

Problem with the V1 in New Jersey is that we can't turn off x band as it is still widely used by local and state police.

Why don't you trust it? That link is no reason. That's just marketing apologetics because he doesn't own the patent. His main complaint is it's not 100% effective. So...his filtering is closer to 0%! The escort counts bogeys like the V1, so if a second signal is detected it'll go off. If it stops detecting a signal there it removes the block. It adjusts filtering with speed by default, and you can manually mark speed traps. It can't block moving alarms, but so what...neither does the V1

The v1 is still slightly more sensitive, but the Escort is more than adequate in most situations and when it goes off, it gets your attention. The thing is silent on my commute. The V1 is constantly making noise so is irritating and easy to ignore when it does pick up a legit threat. GPS is a must have unless you're never on the same road twice

I'll bet the max is a bit more sensitive, but again- the 9500 is sufficient. What differences do people who've used both notice?

Just received it in the mail today. Will update once I have a chance to drive more and compare to the 9500ix.

You can get GPS based lockouts on the V1. Valentine Research recently introduced a new accessory called V1connection for Android. It is a dongle that attaches into the acessory port on the V1 powercord. It is a Bluetooth module. Paired with an Android phone running the free App YaV1 available on Google Play.

Because Escort divides the x and k bands into 30GHz sub bands the possibility of locking out a true threat does happen. YaV1 allows you to narrow the lockout range to 3GHz, and also gives you the option to choose the lockout distance, which will give you a much quieter radar detector and when compared to Escort, reduce the possibility of locking out a real threat.

+1 on upstatedoc's recommendation on laser jammers.

That page also linked out to an independent youtube video that some guys made of the escort not going off when the second signal was detected during the blockout. The V1 page explains how that feature functions and why it didn't go off.

Bought one for my brother on his birthday a few months back in November. He's happy with it! I've used it a couple times and definitely an upgrade from my 8500 X50..

The YaV1 app is only available for android. There aren't any iPhone apps that have GPS based lockouts.
