Advice on car shippers?

I'm looking to purchase a car on here and may need to have the car shipped cross country.

Any advice/suggestions on any reputable companies?

Enclosed/non-enclosed?

Any "gotchas" I need to be aware of prior?

Never shipped a car before so I'm looking for advice. Thanks in advance!

Can't advise you on shipping companies.

But make sure you thoroughly detail the car prior to shipment with a good sealant/coating to protect it from excessive rail dust which may pit the clearcoat.

I have shipped a couple of cars...you put a listing and multiple shipping companies bid for you business.
http://www.uship.com/

Dont give them money ..unless they are willing to go through an escrow company or willing to list on ebay..they can easily list it with a "buy it now price" and you then get the buyer protection backing up to 50k in case you never get the car.
https://www.escrow.com/

You may also want to get the car inspected...they kinda do a piss poor job honestly. They listen to it, take a bunch of pictures check for leaks under car....nothing more than that almost a waste of money but better than nothing...

Uship did a fantastic job shipping my boat from TX to FL. I will use them all the time.

UShip is not really a shipping company, it's more like a platform for random shippers to bid on your criteria. If you want an actual shipping company that uses enclosed transport I would suggest Plycar. They shipped my last M that sold to a buyer across the country. They were very professional and the service was top notch.

I used Reliable Auto Transport for my cross country move and was very impressed.

Thanks for the info. By the way, how long did it take cross country like that?

Also what did it cost you?

With Uship I used a group called Montway and it cost 1k. Of course I was transporting a cheap car... Took about a week to schedule and ship it..

However, for a BMW M3...closed transport? I am very interested in what these other guys spent also ??

+1... shipped my car from cali to NY without incident...enclosed carrier. i will definitely use them again if need be. They're a board sponsor on 6speedonline and give a discount if you say you're a member. Seem to be the shipper of choice over there.

I wasn't bargain shopping when it was time to ship my car. A little extra for peace of mind was worth it.

+1 JP Logistics shipped my new-to-me M3 from CA to AR perfectly. Crazy fast too. 3 days. The driver was a pleasure to talk to, he did a great job.

What criteria did you use to select GT Motorsport?

I used a company called bluestar. The Lambo dealership where I bought my car in Miami recommended them.
Talked to them on a Friday ......got my M3 on Monday the week after. So..... 9 days. Miami to Seattle. The cost was $1800 for a covered transport. Smooth transaction.

Montway's price on Uship is much higher than if you call them directly. $1349 from NY to CA. Let's see how they do though, after I get my car.

I can tell you who NOT to use.... Auto Relocation Plus. Worst company we've ever used to transport our vehicles. Still trying to recoup over $4000 in damage they caused.
