How do you deal with road rage and you being the victim?

Through experience i've learned to just keep driving in a public area, don't pull over, and if it continues and the rage-er keeps following you go to a police station or call the cops..

But.. in a situation where both of you pull over and get out of the car and the other person puts their hands on you and gets physical/shoves you... what would you do? try to catch it on video? call the cops? retaliate after being pushed first?

Just curious how other ppl handle it when they're the "victims" of a more overboard road rage.. we all get mad/angry at times over small stuff.. but to get physical is.. pathetic..

I'm actually pretty bad with this. I have pulled over once in Detroit, but only because I had my pistol. I stated that I had it as the guy was getting out of his car. He threw some cuss words around, and started walking towards the car so I reached under the seat and he must have saw me raise it through the rear window and got back into his car. I hate confrontation, nothing is worth risking life over, so I learned pretty quick to not pull over.

I have virtually no road rage, however, I am an instigator if someone is driving like a douche. If someone is riding my ass, I will antagonize whoever is behind me and use the car next to me to block them in, or I will go about 15mph under the speed limit. Most of the time I just get flicked off or yelled at as I chuckle behind my steering wheel.

Whole different ball game when you're dealing with guns. If it comes to actually pulling over and getting out of the car (which rarely happens) I shove my police expandable baton down my pants and walk out with my hands free. This way, when we actually get down and dirty, I'll have an impressively hard rod down my pants which will definitely scare the guy off. "Dude WTF, you got a boner?" "Yeah, what's the big deal? You have a problem with me getting hard under such circumstances?"

What happens if he is a gay and walks over to start tugging on you? Now the circumstances have really escalated.

Here's a slightly amusing story:

I have a friend that was driving here in Boca Raton, Florida. This one Sunday morning he was coming up to a red light when a car shot up and cut in front of him just to be in the front when the light changed green. My friend has a very "large" New Yorker-type personality. So what did he do? He got out of the car and went up to the guy's window and was yelling "What the hell? You could've cause an accident". What did the guy do? He flashed a handgun at my friend.

So he ran back to the car and got in and started driving but called 911, following the guy to report that the guy had pulled a gun on him.

To make a long story a little shorter, it ended when the cops found then and they all met up at a gasoline station. It turns out that while my friend was on the phone with the police the guy had also called 911 to report a crazy guy approaching his window.

Neither party moved forward. The guy was apologetic and he didnt want to report my friend as he would have lost his gun to the evidence closet for the case.

^great story

"How do you deal with road rage and you being the victim?"

Who is the 'victim' here?
Was he acting like a douche so you decide to antagonize him, and then he gets confrontational/physical?
Who started it, versus, who's escalating it..?

I don't road rage on anyone just as I don't fuck with people who road rage....

I gotta gun in my car just as 70% of the entire Houston Metro Area has a gun in their car....

I have a pretty laid back personality... so I try not to get too worked up over idiots that choose to drive like a DB. Once someone in front of me slammed on the brakes to make an illegal right turn and I almost rear-ended them. I really laid down on my horn the entire time I passed by... and when I looked into the window, it turned out to be my son's friends mom. We were going to the same place, and it was a mighty awkward "Hello" when I saw her. Other than that, I'm pretty passive aggressive... I like to slow down and block in people that ride my ass. It's fun to watch them flip out in my rear view mirror.

The odds of you running into someone with a gun in the car up here are pretty slim. The closest I've come to a road rage incident was having a guy follow me after a honking incident. I drove past my house for a few miles. He eventually lost interest and turned away. Either that or I'm paranoid and he was just taking the same route home as I was.

That's one of the things that keeps me in check. I live in a small town so I imagine it's somebody I actually know and then having to deal with those awkward conversations.

In my younger days, the honking would have been accompanied by a middle finger... good thing I've grown up a little since then.

This has never happened to me, I drive a lot all over the State of California (mostly SF Bay Area), occasionally down to SoCal, and frequently through Sacramento.

Perhaps you drive like an asshole.

Man, I don't know what the fuck it is, but my girlfriend is the same way.

If I'm driving, she will reach over and honk the horn, and then throw a finger out the window like its no big deal.

Real talk. I'm not a violent person, but if you run up on me in a threatening manner.....reading that story about the guy brandishing his gun, that is something I wouldn't do, but I wouldn't cut someone off like that, either. BUT, if anyone ever ran up to my closed window like that, I probably would have pulled out my CHL and held it up against the window w/my left hand (so the guy could get a real close look at it so he knows what he's facing) w/my weapon out of view in my right hand. I specifically asked about this in the class: although it is illegal to brandish your weapon while in possession of a CHL, it is perfectly legal to brandish your CHL.

A few years ago in San Antonio, my sister's friend had some guy road raging @ him, and @ the stop light, the rager got out of his car with a bat, and started battering his car. Her friend got out of the car, asked him to stop. Dude advanced on him with said bat. Unfortunately for him, my sister's friend had a gun. Only one of them lived, and it was deemed a justifiable shooting. The article's out there, I'll dig it up in a bit.

That's childish...another reason I like driving in Europe, people don't hog the hammer lane. They know to get out of the passing lane and not play some dumb games.

Another thing I see a lot in the states, a lot of drivers even speed up when they see you coming around them, it's like those idiots want to go slow but dont want nobody to pass them. Hahaha

When I'm pissed off already, I just hope someone jumps out. I can't help it, I slay them with the vocabulary, and the willingness to make sure they never mess with a bitch again.
I play nice and by the book if the kids are with me, but when I'm alone, I'm worse than anyone of you. I really do not do the passive aggressive, I'm straight to a point of pain and my ego is larger than Canada, so I'm going to get shot soon.

where is all her repressed rage coming from man? does she have to put up with a lot of your shit?

one time I was going fast zipping through cars, a joining point with a flyerover comingup, so i cut across one lane and into the flyer over lane, im going really fast so i assume this car that suddenly appears in the lane i want to go must have accelerated as it was not in front, so i cut in anyway - as anticipated he goes ballistic and gesturing and fingering at me in the rearview, his family is in the car.
My reasoning was, if you see me going fast, and u accelerate to block me for no good reason, then im justing going to cut you off if i can, because you are being an ass first.
Ofcourse, I base this on the assumption that I am entitled to go as fast as i want, cutting across lanes safely, and blocking me for no reason just because i am going fast or cutting, is worse than my original 'sin'.
Some people can only see other people being an ass but not have an objective assessment as to how much of an ass they are themselves.

I think it has more to do with other things, but I'm sure I play a substantial part HAHA !!!

let me go on the record as saying that my wife has a temper - she's impatient and she can drop more f-bombs in one sentence than Richard Pryor and Andrew Dice Clay combined.....

the fact that she can get agitated easily, the fact that she's impatient, the fact that she's got a mild to moderate case of OCD and the fact that she drives @ 65 miles a day and has to sit in traffic for 2 hours WITH THE KIDS IN HER CAR really gets her wound up nice and tight...

she's at her best when she's curled up on the couch like a kitty kat swiping through instagram and pintrest, all while the kids are upstairs sleeping HAHA !!!!
