The UP... Lots of pics
My wife and her friend did a half IM in Benton Harbor, MI earlier last month and we decided to take a motorhome and tour the UP the week after the race. Figured i'd share some pics. I had my new 5D2 for all of 3 days prior to setting off.
The weather was bonkers when we got in and they canceled the swim portion of the race. Cleared up nicely though. Hard to tell but those are 4 to 6 foot waves.... in the lake. The rolling house.... Had bikes all up in the RV.... 2 scooters, 2 race bikes & 3 Mtn bikes. Some of the race... Ice bath in the lake after the race and the surf calmed down a bit. On the way to and on Mackinac Island. Shot through Arch Rock Took a tour through the Soo Locks. Heading into Lake Superior. Canada on the right, US on the left. Canadian Lock, geese included. Steel plant on the bank of Superior Pictured Rocks Marquette, MI Yes.... that's a dude snorkeling in Lake Superior - water temp...64 degrees.

Yeah. With the full frame and huge sensor there is hardly a reason to take it off. It's wide enough for most everything and I can always crop the image to zoom in with out reducing the size by much. Seems that my 70-200 will almost become a sports/wildlife exclusive lens. The 16-35 is SUPER wide with that sensor. Seeing slot of fish eye qualities when using that one. Only used it for test shots so far though.

don't be afraid of that 16-35..... it stays on my 5DII most of the time, unless i'm shooting portraits.
also the 70-200 makes for a nice portrait lens as well as your wildlife and sports lens. you just have to keep a little more distance from people. but you can achieve some great bokeh with it. (F4 or F2.8 versions) but for travel, the 16-35 and 24-70 have been my 2 best travel companions. Great shots, glad to see you're enjoying then northern regions and 64 degree water isn't toooooo bad, just don't want to spend much more then 10 minutes in there |

Thanks Guys.

I like using the 70-200 for just about everything that i have enough room for. It's the 2.8 IS version so it's pretty darn versatile when it comes to light conditions. Nearly every shot up in this thread was taken with the 24-70. kind of a double edged sword though. The 24-70 is most useful, but the least sharp of my 3 lenses. I wonder if i can send it in for calibration or something along those lines..... Anyhow, the UP was great. We were in Superior as well, but it was just after a day of Mtn Biking so my legs were happy for the ice bath.
