Anyone live in Silicon Valley?
I'm a software engineer and just moved to Silicon Valley (Palo Alto) this summer. I'm pretty shocked because I see a lot of nice cars and I know there are a lot of younger guys making decent money but I don't see any nice places to live. I've only seen like 1 nice apartment complex (Avalon towers in Mountain View). I've been searching for a newer apt to stay but can't find anything. Anyone else familiar with the area?

I used to live and work in Silicon Valley.
the words "cheap" and "nice" do not belong in the same sentence.

You a CS major or Software Engineer? I hate that in the USA they do not do the distinction.
Also, yeah, Palo Alto is rubbish for cheap housing. |

Well Palo Alto is def more expensive than most other areas, but still cheaper than SF pricing.
Most of people I know prefer Fremont/Milpitas areas to live in terms of pricing. Gilroy is like 50 miles away from Palo Alto and traffic during rush house is nasty. I'd stay away. |

Palo Alto, Burlingame, Redwood Shores, San Mateo, Atherton, Menlo Park all have nice places to live, you just have to look for them. Each of those cities also have their "average or not so nice areas" but you just need to take the time to look in the right parts. A lot of cities here in northern California have nice and not so nice areas all in one zip code, not like some places in southern California that have a zip code full of nice places and zips full of not so nice places.
My friends just moved to Palo Alto and found a nice place near the Stanford campus that's a few blocks from the hospital...might want to try that area? |
