Color difference between usages of a same picture file.

Hi there, probably a noob question here.

When I look at a raw file i've worked on in Lightroom and export it in Jpg, the colors are pretty much accurate. So if I open my picture viewer on one screen and lightroom on the other screen, the colors match.

But when I upload that jpg on 500px, I think its loosing a bit of depth in the colors. So my final photograph on my computer seems different as soon as it gets online.

I'm working with the ProPhotoRGB in lightroom, could it be bother Chrome and explorer that cant work with those colors?

I tried wiggling around and couldnt find my answer; thought I'd ask some pros.

Thanks for the help. I'll try to take screenshots later to see if I can show you the issue I have.

the internet works on sRGB as that's what most monitors have been built to handle in the past.

so, when you upload to the internet, you're seeing sRGB only.

Many photographers will only shoot sRGB as most of their stuff will never go beyond the computer.

Printers also are rare in anything other then sRGB, but they do exist, so again, many will only shoot sRGB

It is likely that if you continue to shoot and edit in that format, that every time you upload to the web, it will likely be converted.

I'm sure not all pages are built this way, and maybe that's what you're seeing, but editing in ProPhoto RGB is probably the culprit.

That was exactly it.

I made some tests before starting that topic but i've only changed the export setting into srgb and still get the same results. Now i've changed the palette used in the preference and everything looks the same.

Thanks a lot!

no worries, I did a lot of research of this stuff back in the day to find out why we had the options of different colour formats.

Long story short, I still don't really know why, but I understand what they do and don't do, and where they apply (mostly)

I know rodi has said he shoots video in adobe RGB because there's better skin tones in video.

overall however, when shooting in things other then srgb, there technically are more available colours, but less variations of each colour. So it really comes down to a personal preference.

If you want the colors to look right when viewed on the internet use Firefox or Safari. Chrome and IE are not color aware. Make sure the sRGB box is checked in the Lightroom export dialog.

I got perfect results with Chrome when I last tested. So it only leaves IE to avoid.
