In Sweden we usually say that the TT is a hairdressers car. Because it is something that looks sporty but drive like a station wagon.

Surely on that kind of salary they're more likely to own a Miata than an Audi or BMW.

I got 2 hairdressers that work around the corner from my job.one just got the new 911 and the second ones drives a Lambo on the weekends and a Range Rover all done up for a DD !

Regardless of what anyone can or can't afford, the comment is meant as an insult. It's like saying it's a sissy's car, not a "real man's car", and so on and so on. People will never run out of ways to denigrate someone else's car (or stereo, or house, or job, or body, etc, etc). Pretty silly, really. Says more about the person making the comment than anything else.
