I take back (almost) everything I've ever said about auto transmissions.
Saw two GT-Rs today in completely different locations at different times. Which is weird because I only see a few out in the wild per year. The second one accelerated hard and I was in
I've always figured auto transmissions (maybe he was paddle shifting but I doubt it in the city) were dumb and boring. What I was missing was the "powerful car" bit. I imagine in a GT-R it's quite fantastic.

Me too. Even though to a lot of people they are "played out" as so many people have them, but you cannot deny the performance of the thing. And the way the price has been increasing on them with each new model, the only way I'll be able to afford one is if its used. |

Where are these GT-R owners? I see approximately 5 or 6 in the wild each year. I honestly can't think of a car I see less of except Aston Martins. The people who say that are just jealous and want to sound cool.

I've seen 2 in the town I live in, one was a brand-spanking-new 2012 GT-R in that blue/purple color, which baffled me because I didn't think anyone in my town was rich enough to afford one. And the other one was red older model, saw that on base, which equally baffled me. Automatics, well, none-traditional manuals, are in a lot of cars these days. I mean, when was the last time you saw a traditional manual in a Ferrari? I love MT cars, my current one is, but they do have their drawbacks. Their biggest one is traffic jams. I wouldn't mind switching to the "flappy paddles" on my next car. Not sure if I would want a full auto though, those still sound boring. At least the paddles still gives you some control. Keeps things interesting. |

I was visiting a friend in Houston and he's a big fan of muscle cars, he picked up a challenger srt8 last year but hasn't let me drive it but it's automatic which kinda ruins it. Anyway we were out driving and I was telling him about the GT-R for some reason he had never heard of, right as I as describing we saw on going in the other direction, guy was flying in that thing. He still says he would stick with the challenger, myself I would have a problem choosing between that and my M!!

I got scared when the salesman told me the price to pay to maintain the GT-R will be as much as any super cars out there and I don't understand why the Japanese makes require oil change/maintenance every 6000/8000kms while the German does it once every 15000/24000km

Keep in mind that when it first came out, it had a huge mark-up, almost up to $20k-$30k in some cases. And these days, it's still in demand and if you find one in around high $50k/low $60k range, it'll be gone off the lot with quickness.
