Playing Diablo 3 & My PC Died ...
my pc has been running fine and i was playing diablo 3 today. i thought i would try new video settings to see if i can get my frames up so i put everything on "low" besides texture which was set to "high". my video card is a 8800 gt btw.
so playing on these new settings for 3 minutes my comp froze and i had no choice but to hard reboot. once i rebooted i tried diablo again and same thing happened; few minutes in, froze, and i had to hard reboot. on the reboot my screen is all pixelated beyond belief. i reinstalled nvidia drivers and still nothing. so i finally just reformatted but even on a fresh reformat, i can't install the video driver. on the install page i can't even select it. is my gpu fried? how can i be sure? attached is a screen shot of how my screen looks but it doesn't show all the small dots running up and down and side to side of the entire screen.

My 8800Gtx did the same thing. Those cards run super hot.
New card wise I would suggest a 560Ti by MSI with Twin Frozr II it is an awesome bang for buck card. Since your running Xp I would actually suggest a new rig for you :P Maybe also look at a new case with better air flow. When I upgraded my rig I bought a coolermaster HAF X and my gfx card peak temp dropped by 20 degrees centigrade. You don't need to go overboard like me, even a haf 922 would be a mega upgrade.

my evga 8800 gtx did the same a few months ago while playing skyrim and bf3. The crashes will become more frequent and so will the graphical distortions even on desktop. It is indeed 100% fried

haha, yep i am still using xp on my old desktops. i don't find the need to build me a new rig until i can't play a game i want on it. like they say if it ain't broke don't fix it.
i was shopping around for new gpu and came between the gtx 460, 550 ti, and 560 se. in order from performance and reading about them it is 460>560se>550 ti. there is the 6850 but it is a 3.0 pci slot and my pc has a 1.0 and im not sure if i want to push the gap too far. the 8800 gt is a 2.0 so i know for sure the 460 and 5xx will not have a problem. as for the new sli 690s that would be but i still can't get over the fact back in the day when the x850 xt pe came out it was $500 and now for $500 you can get a 680. such a rapid change. thanks for the help guys.
