Any Subaru experts on this forum???

I know there are many Subaru to BMW converts on this forum so I wanted to ask you a quick question.

How much power can a 2011 WRX (not an STI) make with mods? A friend of mine has one with FBO and a Cobb Stage 2 tune on the stock turbocharger at around 22 psi and claims he put down 330 awhp/360 awtq on a Mustang dyno. Is that realistic/possible? With the AWD drivetrain losses, that would put him in the low to mid 400s for hp and tq at the crank.

Note, I have no interest in racing him or trying to prove to him that my car is faster, just curious if my friend is BS'ing me or not. So I am more interested in determining my friend's character rather than his car's performance.

I was very skeptical too, hence creating this thread.

He says he has upgraded to cold air intake, full turbo-back exhaust, throttle body, intercooler (still top-mounted), Cobb Stage 2 tune and a few misc. supporting mods but still on the stock turbocharger.

So based on his setup, what would be a realistic for power at the wheels/crank?

actually thats pretty realistic, my 05 WRX with tune and downpipe only put down 270awhp at 16psi. Thats when WRX motors were 2.0lt now they are 2.5lt

330awhp at 22psi FBO is not out of reach

Also, if he wanted an upgraded turbo it wouldnt break his bank like it would on a 335i

Is 22 psi on the stock turbocharger realistic though? Keep in mind, 22 psi is only his claim and I have not verified that. I have no idea if that is even possible but I guess I would not be surprised since STIs and EVOs routinely do that on stock turbos.

I seriously doubt the stock turbo is going to hold 22psi. The best my STi did on the stock turbo was 307whp. Front mount, full turbo back, UTEC, CAI, 850cc injectors. If I remember right 19psi was all it had. And that was a peak pressure. I upgraded to a FP Green turbo and did 377whp on pump gas. C16 was good to about 430ish whp.

It's possible that it's tune to 22 psi at 4th gear, around 4 - 6k rpm. Then it's probably taper down near the redline. It's an aggrasive set up. I don't think it will make that much more power at that psi. I think anything behind 20 psi is out of turbo efficiency range on vf series.

Still 330whp/360tq on mustang dyno? It's hard for me to believe that. Maybe on dynojet. Also, is that on the pump gas?

I still hang out with subie crew. I've been to several subie dyno day meets, and they have mustang dyno.

From what I have seen, most sti with FBO and stock turbo was making 280-300 whp and 310-330tq.

If your friend's WRX is acutally making that much power with FBO, and stock turbo and pump gas, it's hell of car. Personally, I think your friend is trying to brag, and bring some numbers up.

On a mustang dyno with td04 stock turbo? That's hell of WRX you got there. I'm jealous. I have vf 39 turbo, cobb downpipe/cobb catback, prodrive up pipe, aps turbo inlet, 550cc injectors, walbro fuel pump, gm bcs, sti top mount for power mods. My 05 WRX only made 268 whp on 19psi on a mustang dyno. On dynojet, it made 309whp.

Thanks for all the responses guys! I knew I can count on this forum for some technical answers.

My buddy is NOT running race gas or meth. Just plain ole pump gas.

So based on what you all are saying, sounds like my buddy is exaggerating a bit like I originally thought. Good to know that some Subaru-experts can verify this.

Like I said before, I am not interested in racing him or beating him. Hell, I don't even care to call him out on it. Just wanted to see what type of person he is and now I know...

Thanks again!
