The Ducati(s) are pure sex to look at it.
But pushing the limit, I would never trust it/ or feel comfortable on it. I would/will take the BMW all day every day over any Ducati. Its a shame really. I don't know wtf they are doing over there in Bologna but they need to get their heads right. The over engineer everything they touch to a point of absurdity. Hopefully Audi can get them straightened out. As a side note, its refreshing to see that BMW is trickling down true WSBK feedback/technology to production models. At the opposite side of that, I wouldn't want to touch anything that was trickle down Ducati technology from MotoGP lol. |

I had a 2010 bmw motorsports loaded. Great bike. Incredibly fast but it did have a lot of bar vibration.

Was this even news? Ducatis street bikes have been always known to be lookers and not very practical or fast. If they made a 600cc class and fixed their ergonomics, I might buy one.
The new seat still doesn't look very comfortable and the engine was way overrated. BMW spanked it rightfully, whilst being heavier. Ducati lost all credibility in my books once I test-rode the 1198. An uncomfortable bike is a slow bike, regardless of numbers.

The kind of over engineering I am talking about is how they have it in their minds that some untried and unproven way of doing things, is better than the tried tested and true ways. ie: Ducatis carbon fiber uniframe on their GP bike. All riders were telling them, it isn't working, it doesn't have feel. They suffered from harsh understeer, chatter, and other significant problems. Not to mention that they were losing. Horribly. It took them two years before they finally made a change and somewhat admitted that their little experiment didn't work. Their idea of engineering is strictly within the confines of a computer and theoretical applications, not with a person riding the bike and giving feedback. Ducati, in their effort to be different and unique, designs sub par motorcycles. And if you need more reason for me not feeling safe on them, there is this whole thing too. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/578/13...-Panigale.aspx something about a swing arm falling off mid ride that doesn't sound safe to me... |

Saw the Panigale last weekend in Big Sur and was blown away by the looks. Some quick (obviously too cursory) investigation indicated the bike was a BMW "killer". This review obviously puts that misconception to rest...

I have never taken a test ride with ANY Ducati... but between my X6 and my S 1000 RR, I must say that I am now officially a BMW fan boy, lol.
