I am a licensed sky diver. You will have a great time. What drop zone are you going to with your family? If it is smaller then you will probably be in a 182 and jump from 10....Caravans and bigger planes do the extra 2.5 and offer a much easier exit as the door is huge. I have ear pops on planes as well but never experienced them during free fall. I occasionally would have to clear them under canopy but not painful. Since it is your first jump I kinda doubt you will feel the cold much...you will be too excited. You will be in helmet, goggles, and a flight suit for your jump. Wear long underwear and comfortable cloths. Make sure everyone has closed toed shoes as well.....

If you exit at 12 then you will get about 40 sec of free fall. Tandems have to pull chute higher due to regs so you will also get good time under canopy.

It was a good time, thanks. I actually wasn't that cold - they said it was only like -12 degrees up there, and I had some layers so it was fine. I think the plane was something like Cargoload or caravan or something on it - anyway, we got probably 12-13 people in it and they took us up a little past 12,000...I think it was about 12,700 they said.

My ears did hurt under canopy but whatever, didn't bust an eardrum which is what I was afraid of, so all good.

Very good experience - recommended!
