Question Repairing a trolley jack....

Recently my Halfords trolley jack has been failing me (wishing I hadn't bought a Halfords one now!!).

It used to take a few pumps before it moved but then worked fine. Now it doesn't work at all. Won't even lift it's own weight. So thought I'd try topping up the hydraulic oil. Even that seems difficult!!

Any thoughts on what position the jack should be in while topping up the oil??? Fully retracted or extended?

Thanks.

Ah, that's interesting, thanks. At the weekend it was down to freezing so that would make sense. However, it wasn't working a couple of weeks ago at 10*c.

Buy a new one?

I've been trying to convince my dad to replace our jack for years now. This jack we have is probably as old as I am(23). You have to pump it 9000 times for it to lift the car off the ground like 6". And when you go to release it, it's so old it's almost like it's on/off. Scares the shit outta me sometimes. But he loves that damn jack. Lol

Topping off you just need to have it fully down. Then bleed out any air as well.
