Just bought a Canon 17-40 L USM f4 lens, need care help!

So im super excited about this canon 17-40 L series lens i just bought for my canon 400D and I need to ask you guys what the safest and best way to clean its lens surfaces is? Thanks alot

You mean to clean the front element? IMO, you don't need Pec Pads -- I don't know anyone who uses those on lenses, but I've been out of the game for a few years.

Brush off any loose grit with a lens brush or use a blower to get it off. Then just use a MF cloth and some breath. If you're really OCD about it, to get the very edges, you could use a Lenspen. They're good for getting spots the lens cloth can't reach.

Seriously, you'd be surprised how messed up the front element of your lens can be and not impact the sharpness of your photos. Even with a chip in the front element, most pros actually fill in the spot with a tiny dab of black magic marker (to eliminate flare) and drive on. You'd only notice a spot like that if you are shooting at a very short focal length with close focus and a very small aperture.

Seriously, you don't need to keep it immaculate, but I understand your OCD-ness. Most of us keep our lenses very clean, just like our cars.
