Riiight, so now you've bought a Caddy... a GM product... hmm yes I see, because GM aren't known for whoring out platforms from and to the entire world under god knows how many brand-names, platform sharing, parts sharing... including... tie-ups with China. Wonder how long it will be before the Alpha platform is used to underpin a saloon for SAIC...
You're missing the point just to defend the great BMW. Carry on...

As an owner, of course this is not a move that I would like BMW to take. However, this is a smart move and has been done by Mercedes and Audi already. Their lower end models C-class and E-class, A4, A6 etc are made in China to keep the costs down. It is still very expensive in China but it will reduce the costs from importation by a lot. I heard that the 3 series made by brilliance will use 60% materials from Germany while the remainder from China

It's not a knockoff guys. It is a BMW sedan just made in China... and ONLY for the Chinese market. It will not have any impact on the market anywhere else in the world. It will still be a premium car with a premium price tag. The only difference will be the costs of manufacturing going down in return for greater profits for both Brilliance and BMW.

If you call this being a knockoff, then you can call all the A4's, and A6's that are made in China knock-offs.

Care to clarify your point then? To me it seemed like you were suggesting you bought an ATS (Cadillac/GM product) because BMW were "Selling out", and because of "what BMW has become just in the name of profit"...

I would have thought that if those two reasons were enough to sway you away from a brand, then you would have at least settled for a brand of fine upstanding core values, built on tradition, that doesn't badge engineer, platform share, deal with the Chinese or produce products that satisfy widespread demand in order to make a profit.... hence my sarcastic comment about buying an ATS.

If on the other hand, you just think the F30 and the F10 are bad products, then fine, each to their own.

This is a bunch of bull. Bmw shouldn't lower themselves and partner with some Chinese company. The Chinese will ruin the car and hurt bmws name.
