I was thinking about this as I was following a Porsche 993 to work the other day. What are some other examples of the older generation being better or better looking than the successor?

I definitely think that the older Foxbody Mustangs look far better than the 94-2004 body style. To me, that body style just looks cheap and not muscular enough for a Mustang. I apologize I didn't put pics, I'm not sure how to upload them.

Pretty much anything from the 60s going to the early 70s, and pretty much anything from the mid 70's going to the late 70's early 80's. Then it just plateaued for about 10 years and then things started to look better.
Your example is good though. The latter gen you posted just looks kinda blah compared to the earlier model. |

I absolutely agree on the 911, the 993 will probably always be my favorite. I'm really just proving my age, but I still think the E39 M5 > E60 M5 > F10 M5 and the same holds for me on the E36/8 M Coupe > E86 M Coupe. Dynamically I also prefer the AP1 S2000 to the AP2.
Interesting personal point of reference, maybe this applies to others, but a rear view mirror attached to the door, not the front edge of the window nearly always looks better, as demonstrated by the 993/996 above. |
