I'm not sure I believe all this short run talk. It doesn't make sense. The Corvette is one of the most fuel efficient sports cars as it is.

It should be a 7-8 year run, in line with the C5 and C6.

I'll predict the C7 Z06 to have 540-550 HP, hopefully NA.

So far from what I have read, Z06 will have 550-600hp with a reworked 7.0L.

Corvetteforum had a member release CAD images of the C7 and the two engines shots showed the LT1, which was spot on, and another engine which was an S/C engine.

He said it would be called LT4, and was making some ridiculous power.

Didn't mention the 7.0L coming back but who knows...

I have seen the threads. Some say SC, while others say NA. I could see them using a DI version of LS7. LS7 will be here for a little while longer, they just put it in the Z28. I personally would like to see it stay NA, for the weekend track days. There are also the rumors of the ZR1 with supercharged LT1, with 700hp.

I hope to God that the Z06 stays NA. I'm not big on SC or turbos. I can see them upgrading the LS7 and making more revs with close to 600HP. If not the LS7, hopefully another big cube motor.

I see the new motor being a twin turbo 5.5L.

They use a 5.5L V8 for the R cars and tuning companies who have cracked into the ecu have already found variables to control a turbo motor.

5.5L engine:

I'm thinking along the same lines as most people. The Z06 will remain NA while the ZR1 will be more than likely supercharged again.

I also think they're going to do the same thing with the Z06 as they did with the Z28. They'll make the car as light as possible - close to 3200lbs (Stingray with Z51 weighs 3,444lbs. so lose about 200lbs)
If you do the math of HP/Liter increase that the LT1 (74.2) has over the LS3 (70.3), which is a 5.5% increase in HP/Liter - that means the Z06 with 7.0 liter displacement with variable valve timing and DI would make about 533hp (76.1HP/Liter).
BTW: For those thinking the Z06 is ALREADY making that much HP due to GM underrating the HP - I spoke at length to Katech, the guys who actually build the race engines for the factory Corvette race team. He said they've dynoed (not chassis - an actual bench dyno) about 50 Z06 engines that were stock and have never seen more than 510hp.

I can only imagine how GM was when they saw that the brand new Viper TA FINALLY beat the ZR1. GM was thinking "wow, you finally just barely beat our 5 year old car, wait till the new one comes out!"

Rumor has it that there won't be a z06 corvette. Only Z51 and ZR1 models.

There will too much space (pricewise) between the two models for there not to be a z06. They would lose a lot of customers if they didn't have a model in the 75k range that helps separate them from the "regular" Corvette owners.

Z06 is supposedly being debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, along with the C7.R.

I agree.

The only issue is the base Corvette can be loaded up to $75K now, but it's not going to give any more performance than the cars equipped with only the Z51 package.

I had a 2006 Z06. It weighed 3,150lbs (1LZ package) and was a fantastic car! Much more hardcore than the standard car. The engine was phenominal! 7.0 liters revving to 7,000rpms was magic.

I should have reworded my statement. There will either be a z06 or zr1, not both. Whether its a z06 following the NA or FI route or a zr1 following the NA or FI route, only one of them will be used.

Makes sense though because the base z51 vette put down such amazing performance numbers.

Just saying what I read. Who knows, these car companies are always very sneaky.

You also have to remember that they now have the z/28 which can fill that gap despite it not being a corvette.

I understand, and agree. But the z28 and a corvette a VERY different car from a Z06 (as you alluded)

That just a minor setback that GM's bean counters have figured out a perfect solution for
The Z06 will start at 75k and well be $95k loaded. The ZR1 will start at 110k and can be optioned 135k. This is reasonable because a fully loaded ZR1 will still be cheaper than a base 911T. And you'll probably need at least a TurboS to match a ZR1 and they start at $160k.

The Z/28 will only be around for two MY's most likely. The Alpha based Camaro will arrive for 2016.

2016 Camaro is going to be awesome! I'm interested to see where the styling is going to go. They took a risk with the stingray, i'm assuming they will do the same with the camaro.
