My wife and I just redesigned our home, and there had to be literally millions of permutations of paint colors, fabrics, and finishes, but the designer spent about 4 hours with us and absolutely nailed the design. I think some people might also be thinking there is only one combination of car interior and exterior they are happy with, and wading through all of the details to find that one combination would be impossible. But a great designer can make options that would otherwise be dismissed make perfect sense. I think the program is great...for marketing if nothing else. People willing to put that kind of money into a car are shopping other car companies that already do this. |

I don't see any difference between this "new" Individual program and the "old" Individual program other than the official announcement that Individual does exist in the US.

I think it is interesting. I remember seeing threads a while ago on the 7 series forum from a poster that worked for BMW Individual. He posted some crazy custom cars, built for customers preferred from BMW Individual. One of them had a leather roofliner...
The bmwusa.com configurators show minimal options for Individual colors and trims. I often hear it said that you can special order any bmw color from Individual on a new BMW. Therefore, it seems to me that allowing customers to do this and showing them the possibilities will expand awareness of the Individual program above and beyond what you see on the bmwusa site. Yes, it won't be cheap, and it won't add value to the car. But that's not the target market for this kind of service. I think it's pretty cool. Maybe they will do the i8 and let us order it in "BMW Individual Concept i8 paint job" |

So if you want anything other than black or red interior, you're going to be forking over money to pay a designer's salary in addition to the cost of the leather?
This "lines" business with extremely limited interior and exterior color options are really off-putting when you're paying the money BMW is asking.

I just want an Imola Red on Black M2 GC. I don't need a designer (or an upped up charge) for that!

Everything that was listed can be done on your own, and for cheaper too. Individual color and interior... not exactly something you can get at Pepboys.

In US:
All I wanted was to pay fair price for an alcantara headliner on my '13 528 M Sport. But no I would have had to get a 535 with Individual removing sport package...you know for a what should be a $500-2000 option of adding a different headliner now a $10k difference in price for not even the same trim level. Also what is up with restricting me not being able to order leather dash on 528...there is no interior differences in all 3 F10's (non M5) besides no AutoStart Stop on 550i? None. Pure Marketing decision.

the majority of the people that will go this route are not on a BMW forum Add another $20K to the M6 as someone mentioned earlier. I would rather have a Porsche 911 Turbo v M6, or Porsche Cayenne Turbo v X6M.

I wonder if this new program was setup to prevent "Individual" order screw ups - like the one that happened not too long ago. In that case, they painted an individual order M3 the wrong color. And took a big PR hit in addition to compensating the owner.
