2007 Audi TT Coupe

Went and test drove the new TT this afternoon.
Wow... what a disappointment.

I took out a 3.2 Quattro with the manual trans. Black exterior with red interior. Loved the seats, the steering wheel, and the black headliner is standard (BMW, are you listening?); but the interior IMO wasn't as good as the A4. The dash looked cheaper then I would expect from Audi.

Then I put the car in gear.
Holy hell I thought I had put the clutch through the floor. It's so light, and you can't really feel when the clutch is engaging. The steering was extremely light as well, and there was probably 15° of play on either side of dead center. The shift knob is way too tall, and the throws are too far. And to top it all off, the car just doesn't feel stable. I know it has a shorter wheelbase then my E90; but running it up to 100 on the freeway, it was way to twitchy for my comfort.

Got back and the sales guy goes "so what'd you think?"
Told him flat out "I like the way it looks, but hate the way it drives."

Same here. I really never thought I'd hear anyone complaining about vw/audi manuals. They're supposed to be the best in the business outside of civic si/s2000

You drove the 3.2 thats why.

Test drive the 2.0T and you'll totally change your mind.

TT owners and car magazines have all stated that the 2.0T is just so much funner to drive...mainly because of its weight and lack of quattro

Who wants a FWD?! The 2.0T is dated also. Shame they keep putting that same engine in cars. Isnt it even derived from the 1.8T and just bored out more? Ridiculous.

I would have rather driven the 2.0T, but the 6spd is only available with the 3.2 Quattro. And like ACZakka325i said, FWD FTL.

I was just really disappointed by the car; felt so disconnected from the road.

I have read the same thing also.. the 3.2 have an much heavier engine and feels real heavy in front. It is actually 150 kg heavier than the 2.0 T. The 2.0 T is supposed to have a lot better balance and it is not that much slower..
0-100 km/h (0-60) is in the 3.2 : 5,7 sec and 2.0 T 6,5 sec.

Wow Im pretty surprised by your review. I thought the new Audi TT would drive better than the older version. I really like the new design though.

a3? mines for sale!!!
as for service depts its hit or miss ...some really good ones down here and some really bad ones. most companies are like that except lexus of course.
As for the 2.0T is a completely new motor. Not just bored out, its an FSI motor compared to the regular 1.8T. its A LOT more torquey than the previous one and a simple chip can get you some very nice power in cars like that. keep in mind its not a TT so the gains are less than the piggybacks for the 335 but im running near 300wtq with my 'stupid lil FWD' with less drivetrain loss audi is a good company, just need to go back to the TT V6 to compete in the performance section

Also the steering is very neutral, it's heavy, and there's no play on center and you get plenty of feedback. Again the chassis is awesome because you feel all the crannies in the road yet when you go over a pothole, when you'd expect your back and neck to be jolted, you actually don't-it's a very compliant ride.
If you're in the market for a roadster-I definitely recommend this or the cayman if you don't like convertibles.
Yeah, I love the Cayman, but a bit out of my price range... oh well, one day.
Not a vert person at all, so the Boxster's out.
