Brazilian Bike Hijacking Goes Wrong [video]

Quote:
In footage that might be a little close to home for many South African road users this attempted motorcycle hijacking in Sao Paulo, Brazil, takes a turn for the worse for the gun-wielding criminal as he is unaware of the policeman parked alongside the unfolding incident.
Captured via the hijack victim’s helmet-mounted camera, the footage shows the biker riding through traffic before being confronted at an intersection by another bike. Shoving a gun in the bikers face the would-be criminal demands the bike and keys before lifting the bike and getting ready to make his getaway. This is when the uniformed policeman exits his car to confront the hijacker.
It certainly looks as though the hijacker raises his gun before the policeman fires two shots at close range to swiftly bring an end the confrontation.
Later on in the video we see the hijacker writhing in pain as they await the ambulance.
[update] The police officer was on his way home from a shift when the incident occurred. Although he fired two shots at the hijacker, only one bullet hit the criminal. 18-year-old Leonardo Escarante Santos was treated in hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his abdomen. His accomplice is still on the run.
WARNING: Footage of someone being shot!

My wife travels there once or twice a year. She said it's a total sh!t hole...and nobody's allowed to walk on their own in the city.

When the video started, I thought the biker was going to smash a window and steal something out of the car...they're known for that.

Yeah it doesn't look very welcoming... Thumbs up to the off-duty cop though

If you're going to go to Brazil, go to Florianopolis. Very nice for vaca.
