Maybe he's dyslexic? Still waiting for definitive proof.

Well there are multiple articles stating he is dyslexic...

I hardly think uploading a video to YouTube requires normal intelligence...Way to many videos of people doing really dumb things. I mean with today's modern camera phones...its one button to upload to youtube...

FWIW, a C is considered average in my opinion, not barely passing. In general I think a C is average and a D would be barely passing to me.

Where I went to school, for one "area" of our overall grades (not academic), we suffered what was called forced distribution. Without divulging too much info, basically take a group of 30 folks, only ~3 could get A's, ~10 B's, the rest C's and below if necessary.

You really had to bust your ass and stand out to get that A and somewhat similar for a B. Otherwise, you WERE getting a C. What if there were 5 people who were outstanding? Sorry, 2 of them aren't getting an A. It would come down to some petty shit sometimes to determine who would get that A or B over others.

It taught me a lesson though: No one is perfect, and everyone has SOMETHING that they can improve on at some point in their lives...

There are meds these days that really can help kids focus, and therefore help them learn. There are many more meds on the market these days with far fewer side effects. Local schools for kids with learning issues can often give a recommendation for a testing professional. Kids with learning issues are often brighter than normal - once they are taught how to cope, they soar.

If your car was stumbling under load, and the Indy shop told you it needed walnut blasting, wouldn't you do it?*

*This is not an endorsement for walnut blasting children.

Aside from football, does he have any mechanical or skilled trade interests (cars, machining, etc)?

After years of neglecting grades, and now being older, I feel it has bit me in the ass in one sense, but school wasn't for me. I was more interested in being hands on, and this may be the same instance for your son. It can be a fulfilling experience for him and give him a "path" that will make school feel less..., schoolish.

At the same point in time, it may have just been his surroundings as you've said he's gotten better in everything since being in NC with you. Has he been involved in any kind of tutoring for math?

Intellect is hereditary you know? Honestly if he has trouble focusing you should look into getting him an ADD test. I got a 2.7 sophomore year of high school and went to see my doctor and was diagnosed with ADD. Got Vyvanse ( add medicine) and then junior year I got a 3.8. I swear by vyvanse. Made life a lot easier for me

Edit: I would also recommend reading some books on proper parenting. I don't know you at all and I'm not degrading your parental abilities but there are a lot of small details a parents needs to understand in order to raise a proper kid.

All the glory of being a renown artist is really beginning to take a toll on my social life, though.

I'd love to see some. A kid I went to school with (from 3-12 grade) was always an outstanding artist and now works for Nickelodeon as a cartoonist. He was doing things in 3rd grade that looked professional. Pretty remarkable talent - I was always in awe.

Here's his website.

I'd agree for the most part, but would your mind change if the class graded on a curve?

Why is he suddenly famous because HE PASSED MATH CLASS?

If passing is an accomplishment I demand recognition for all of us Asians out there...

It was in the original post on Yahoo too - see my first post on units thread. Thanks for finding the confirmation.

I'm just happy for both of them - the kid is SO proud and can't wait to show his pops what they had accomplished together. And the dad's raw emotion was great. Just great.

No problem, I wanted some more definitive proof on the subject. Since someone had a very narrow minded opinion needed to be shown his ignorance.

The video is very moving and it's always nice to see raw happiness.
