I agree about his fuel comments, F1 isn't an endurance race where the benefits of fuel management = less pits stops - give the teams with more efficient engines an advantage. If they want to take it that far then they should extend the race distance and allow re-fueling. Otherwise, I don't see what's wrong with a capped fuel tank and allowing the teams to use that allocation however they want throughout the race.
It's like having a 3GB data plan with AT&T. They won't let me use my phone as a wireless hotspot even though I'm paying for 3GB of data and I should be able to use it any way I want. |

I feel as though F1 has a unique platform globally with which to promote skills and ability but also has a responsibility to what they say, their values and "giving back". Fuel regs are just a part of that. There may be some hypocritical actions but they overall message is still there IMO. We can still race fast, on the forefront of technology and still be aware of our environment and earth.

The side by side in car of Ricciardo and Vettel during qualifying was very interesting....DR seemed to have a soft touch and got the best out of the car while SV seemed to be overdriving it. Maybe a lack of miles in a red bull with so much less aero grip and in the wet put him at a disadvantage. Though it has to be said my 2014 fav Kevin did a masterful job for his first visit to Aus in an F1 car. If only they could figure a quick fix for the engine sound! |

One thing I heard while watching BBC or Sky pre-season prediction.
Part of the objectives of the new engine regulations, was to make F1 more relevant to general public vehicles. Which we might see it in some prototype production models in 5-7 years time. Probably that's why they put a fuel flow restriction, not just for strategy, but to set up a challenge for engine manufacturer. How to use less fuel at any given moment, and more efficiently burn that drop of fuel to produce more power. Not simply squirt more fuel and oxygen anymore. Its a new "Formula", how to use fuel more wisely. Without sacrificing performance too much. So we won't see future hybrids as dreadful as Prius. just a thought.

Formula E will be in Miami March 2015. I'm getting a group together to go if anyone wants to as well...but that's for another thread (PM me). Will probably be all access/paddock, etc.

Still, if the Ferrari team had anything to do with it, it's shameful beyond belief and if true there goes my last ounce of support for them.

How about now
It was ten years ago that, although Schumi won, Montoya set the track record at Sepang in a BMW n/a V10 which was Williams FW26. Looking forward to Williams performance this year at this track and maybe what the lap record means in regard to the new engines... |

I have to be honest - I hate the new sound! I am all for more exciting races, but man, I was totally disappointed with the new sound..
And all these gimmicks about being more green.. f&ck that! This is the pinnacle of motorsport racing for christ sake. I guess next season they will be running cats in the exhaust.. I better stop here, because all the new regs make me angry. |

Teams associated with F1 have had many of the hotels fully booked for close to a year. The rooms had been spoken for way before the flight even happened. It wasn't like Ferrari rolled into town without rooms and said "hey you people in mourning, get the F out, we're Ferrari!"
