The word "caught" implies like it's something bad or dishonorable they were doing... this happens all the time with test/prototype vehicles. It's too expensive to certify/insure them for any long-term life. They may also contain proprietary/experimental technology they don't want falling into competitor hands.

He is absolutely right. BMW isn't caught doing anything. All prototypes get demolished regardless of make and/or model.
