Any NYC real estate gurus here?
The unfinished building in the pic below is 157 W57th in NYC (or so I'm told). I have a pic of this building from 2 years ago and the only thing new is the glass. The construction is obviously on hold. This was the building with the infamous hanging crane you all saw during hurricane Sandy.
My question is about the building behind it. The occupants of that building used to have stunning views of Central Park, for which they paid a king's ransom, no doubt. Now they have this stalled building in front of them blocking the view. Is that acceptable practice in NYC (or anywhere else)? Don't they have some rights or recourse? Or did they know when they bought into that building that the air rights in front of them belonged to someone else who may erect a building and block their views?

One57 is being finished and us mostly sold now from what ive read. They r calling it the first "billionaires" building due to the amenities and pricing. As for the mere millionaires that are bow blocked, such is life in the big city, i had many lovely views from office over the past near 20 years but now ita building all around and not much water view. No recourse in either situation just newd to buy bigger!

No recourse. My coworker had a great apartment in Hoboken with a completely unobstructed view of the Manhattan skyline until they built a taller building in between. He moved.

Thanks. The waiter at the Ballparks Cafe right there in CP told me the same thing, that it would be a billionaires only club there. Pricey real estate indeed. Can't beat the views out one side of the building in any case. If they ever finish the thing. I sat there for an hour having lunch (good Sangria) and didn't see a single sign of work being done. Maybe they're only working on the interior now.

You can seee it now being completed, theyre working on the top levels now as it appears capped, and the building has redefined the skyline. This is just the first though. There are several other similar size towers being planned around CP that will redefine the area in the coming years. People complained about the shadows they cast all across CP but the $$ wins here and they'll be built too.
